“Every time I look at you, all I want to do is kill you.” It’s not every day you hear Elena (Nina Dobrev) saying that to Damon (Ian Somerhalder), but then again, it’s not every day that Silas (Paul Wesley) pays her a visit at school and gets inside her head. Sheesh, I thought Caroline (Candice Accola) was the roommate who wanted to major in drama!
The Oct. 10 episode of The Vampire Diaries finally clued Elena into the whole ‘Stefan is in a box in a lake’ situation, though it didn’t come without a few complications. (For example, Damon found out his girlfriend has been dreaming about her ex all summer.) But after the hard times passed, Elena calmed Damon down by telling him, “We’re going to save Stefan and I’m still going to love you.”
But that was easier said than done, as Stefan’s safe was fished out of the quarry… and he was nowhere to be found! (A hungry Stefan on the loose in Mystic Falls? I can’t imagine anything going wrong. Not at all.)
Speaking of discoveries, the girls also learned a little more about Professor Maxfield (Rick Cosnett), who I shall henceforth refer to as Professor Dick-field, because why not? Anyway, they found out he’s the one who helped cover up Megan’s murder, which means he probably knows something about vampires. It certainly didn’t help that he told Elena her dad was a legend around Whitmore College. Seriously, is there anyone who didn’t know him?
Following Silas’ demands that all of Mystic Falls go on Katherine-watch, Damon put Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Matt (Zach Roerig) in charge of keeping her safe. She protested at first — I’m sorry, am I the only one who’d enjoy being tied up by those two? — but she eventually realized they had her best interest at heart. She even returned the favor when Silas and Jeremy faced off in the woods, shooting Silas in the shoulder and allowing Li’l Gilbert to run free.
(Side note: Can we talk about Jeremy’s “I work out” line?! Writer Brian Young went above and beyond this week, and I salute him.)
The only disturbing part about Katherine and Jeremy’s interactions this week was the obvious sexual tension between them. Whether Steven and Nina meant to or not, they sent shippers — not me, necessarily — into a frenzy. It would be totally gross if they hooked up, right? I mean, Bonnie’s pretty much a no-go at this point, but I’d rather he stay with her; at least she doesn’t look exactly like his sister!
Caroline began the episode by “deferring” her relationship with Tyler (Michael Trevino), but by the end of the hour, it seemed more like she was ready to transfer entirely. After nursing Jesse (Kendrick Sampson) back to health — Damon decided to knock him out, just ‘cuz — they shared a quiet moment, complete with hair-stroking and stories of relationships past. Caroline even confessed to liking him, or in her words, liking him “kind of.” Bad news for Wolf-y!
We finally found out WTF is going on with Matt this week — whatever Nadia’s “traveler” friend did to his head makes him impervious to Silas’ abilities — but sadly, it didn’t stop Silas from snapping his neck and sending him off to Bonnie-ville. Hey, at least Bonnie (Kat Graham) finally had someone to talk to on the other side, even if it was only for a fleeting moment. You’ve got to admire Matt’s ability to make everyone feel better on this show, even in death.
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of this week’s episode? Do you think Elena will really keep her promise to remain in love with Damon? And what’s up with the ‘travelers,’ especially Nadia, who’s clearly out of her damn mind? Drop a comment with your review of the episode and your predictions for the future!
