If The Vampire Diaries‘ planned spin-off The Originals does come to fruition, it’s going to feature some of the best hair on television. HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site Deadline confirms that Daniel Gillies will appear alongside Joseph Morgan and Phoebe Tonkin on the April 25 episode of TVD, which will serve as a backdoor pilot for The Originals.
If this news sounds familiar to you at all, it might be because you already read some of it right here on HollywoodLife.com! Back in Nov. 2012, we asked Daniel when we could expect him back in Mystic Falls, and here’s what he told us:
“I am returning soon,” he said. “[Executive producer] Julie Plec is saying episode 15 and 16, but I am going back to film very soon! I am very lucky to be on two shows [he also stars on NBC’s Saving Hope] that are on the air.”
Speaking of Saving Hope, Deadline reports that Daniel will appear on both shows if his Canadian medical drama is picked up.
Good question!
The Originals will follow Klaus and the rest of the Mikaelson clan — at least two, that we know of — as they return to the French Quarter of New Orleans, which is described as a “supernatural melting pot.” (Kind of like Mystic Falls?)
Klaus apparently helped build that town a few centuries back, so you can expect his past to create some drama — beginning with Marcel, who is described as Klaus’ “diabolical former protégé.”
Elijah’s role on The Originals will apparently be “helping his self-destructive brother find redemption, must side with Marcel’s enemies in order to keep Klaus in line.”
Are you happy to hear Elijah will be on The Originals, or are you bummed that yet another character will be forced to leave Mystic Falls? Drop me a comment with your thoughts on the now-star-studded spin-off!
