In less than a year, Demi Lovato has completely made a 180 degree turn with her life. Not only has the 19-year-old former Disney starlet owned up to eating disorders and other emotional issues, she’s gone through treatment AND revitalized her singing career — no small feat for only 10 months. With all these positive things happening in her life, it was somewhat shocking — and disappointing — to see Demi carrying a pack of cigarettes in her purse while leaving Marmalade Cafe in Sherman Oaks Aug. 30.
Hopefully the cigs weren’t Demi’s — and she was just buying them for someone else. Nevertheless, she’s recently talked about how now (more than ever) she feels like a role model to her younger fans.
“Kids used to tell me, ‘You’re my role model.’ And I’d want to shake them and be like, ‘Whyyyyyy?’,” Demi recently said. “I finally feel like I can inspire people. I can be proud of it.”
However, if young Lovatics see Demi with cigarettes, they’ll start to associate them as “cool,” when that’s not the case at all. If Demi IS a smoker, she should try to keep it out of the public eye, only because she has so many fans looking up to her as a role model for health.
Ironically enough, Demi starred in an anti-smoking PSA in 2007, which I’ve embedded below. It’s interesting to see her so young in that commercial and then realize how far she’s come today.
Were YOU disappointed to see the Marlboro’s in Demi’s purse? Do you think they were hers? Sound off below!
More Demi!
