In recent years, Disney has made strides in their content to be more inclusive, introducing queer characters in everything from their animated films to their live action epics.
LeFou in 'Beauty and the Beast' (2017)
Played by Josh Gad, the sidekick to Gaston, Disney touted him as their first gay character on screen and before released hinted at an ‘exclusively gay moment’ in the final moments of the movie.
Specter in 'Onward' (2020)
Voiced by Lena Waithe, the cyclops cop is the first lesbian character in a Pixar/Disney film and talks about her wife.
MacGregor in 'Jungle Cruise' (2021)
Played by Jack Whitehall, the character is the brother to Emily Blunt’s adventurer. In a scene with The Rock’s character Frank, MacGregor tells him he never got married because his “interests happily lie elsewhere.”
Phastos in 'Eternals' (2021)
It took 13 years and two dozen movies for Marvel to introduce a gay superhero, but he was front and center of the film, played by Brian Tyree Henry
Valkyrie in 'Thor: Ragnarok' (2019)
Played by Tessa Thompson, the ruler of New Asgard was confirmed bisexual by the star who plays her, after a scene from the movie was cut.
