He was viciously thrown to the ground and handcuffed by a plain-clothed officer while in New York City for the US Open. Update: NYPD commissioner William Bratton has apologized to James for the incident, stating that he had been attempting to contact him on September 10 “to extend my apologies for the incident which he found himself involved in yesterday.” The undercover detective who targeted James was stripped of his badge and gun, and placed on desk duty.
