Bio:
Freddie Gray (born August 16, 1989) was a man, arrested by the Baltimore Police Department, and died while in custody on April 19, 2015. Freddie was arrested on April 12, 2015 for possessing, what police said, was an illegal switchblade. After being taken to the police department in the back of a van, Freddie appeared to have fallen into a coma and was taken to the hospital. He died on April 19, 2015, and the autopsy concluded his death was due to spinal cord injuries. On April 21, 2015, the Department of Justice opened an investigation into the incident and six Baltimore police officers were suspended with pay. It was revealed by Commissioner Anthony W. Batts that the officers did not follow policy and did not secure Freddie in the back of the van. Medical investigation concluded that Freddie did receive his injuries while in transport. All officers were found not guilty in the DOJ’s trial.

Personal Life:
Freddie was the son of Gloria Darden. He had a twin sister, Fredericka, and another sister, Carolina. At the time of his death, he was living at home in Gilmore Homes neighborhood. He had a long criminal record, on drug charges and minor crimes, and had been involved in 20 criminal court cases, 5 which were still active when he died.
