Calvin Johnson (born Calvin Johnson Jr. on September 25, 1985 in Newnan, Georgia) is a former American football wide receiver. Calvin was 6’4 by the time he was in 10 th grade and he was destined for a life in sports. He was a letterman in football and a baseball standout in high school. Calvin was ranked among the top 10 wide receivers as a high school student, leading him to enroll at the Georgia Institute of Technology. While at Georgia Tech, Calvin had 178 receptions and 28 touchdowns, arguably the school’s greatest player of all time. He won ACC Player of the Year as a junior. In the 2007 NFL Draft, Calvin was the second overall pick and he went to the Detroit Lions. During his rookie season, fellow teammate Roy Williams nicknamed Calvin “Megatron,” due to his large hands being similar to those of the Transformers character. The nickname caught on. Over nine seasons, Calvin set the record for Most Receiving Yards In A Single Season (1,964) Most Consecutive Games With At Least 100 Receiving Yards and Fastest Player To Reach 11,000 NFL Receiving Yards. He was selected for the Pro Bowl six times and was a two-time NFL Receiving Yards Leader. On March 8, 2016, Calvin announced his retirement from the NFL.

Calvin’s mother, Arica Johnson, helped him negotiate his $132 million contract in 2012, the biggest deals in the league’s history. In 2014, Calvin was caught up in a scandal when Shallyn Blanton accused him of being the father of her six-month-old child. Calvin and Brittney McNorton, a Detroit Lions promotions manager, were engaged in 2015.
