Tracy Chapman is one of the most revered and respected singer-songwriters in recent music history. Her explosive self-titled debut in 1988 earned her six Grammy Award nominations, including one for Album of the Year. Tracy would take home three: Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (for “Fast Car,” a song that would become one of her signature tunes), and Best Contemporary Folk Album. Her fourth album, 1995’s multi-platinum selling New Beginning, had the hit song, “Give Me One Reason.” It reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the Billboard US Adult Top 40 charts. Since then, she has continued to perform and record, releasing Telling Stories (2000), Let It Rain (2002), Where You Live (2005), and Our Bright Future (2008.) In addition to her music work, Tracy has been active in charitable and humanitarian efforts. She’s partnered with Amnesty International, and worked to benefit the public schools of her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.
