Toby Keith was born on July 8, 1961 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Carolyn Joan (née Ross) and Hubert K. Covel, Jr. He got his start with his 1993 self-titled debut, followed by a string of successful albums including Boomtown, Blue Moon and Dream Walkin’. He is well known for his 90s single “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”, which holds the record of being one of the most played country tunes of the decade.

While already a household name in the early 2000s, he achieved global success with his 9/11 themed single “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American).” Through his career he has released a total of 19 albums, 2 Christmas albums, and 5 compilation albums, all totaling sales 40 million albums. He has also had 20 number one hits.

In June 2022, Toby announced he had been battling stomach cancer for six months. Toby died at the age of 62 on February 5, 2024. A statement on his social media said that he “passed peacefully surrounded by his family.” Click through the gallery to see more photos of Toby.
