‘The Princess Diaries’ Cast Then & Now: Anne Hathaway — Miracles do still happen in the movies, and ‘The Princess Diaries’ is one of them. ‘The Princess Diaries’ was released on July 21, 2001, and became an instant hit. The movie follows Mia Thermopolis, who thinks she’s just an ordinary teenager. In reality, she’s a princess of Genovia. The movie starred Anne Hathaway as Mia and Julie Andrews as Queen Clarice. The movie was such a hit that a sequel was greenlit. ‘The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’ was released in 2004.

When ‘The Princess Diaries’ came out, Anne was an unknown star. The movie was her feature film debut. Since the movie and its sequel, Anne has starred in countless other hit films like ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ ‘Interstellar,’ ‘Love and Other Drugs,’ and more. She was nominated for her first Oscar in 2009 for ‘Rachel Getting Married.’ She won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2013 for her performance as Fantine in ‘Les Misérables.’ Since 2012, Anne has been married to Adam Shulman. They have two kids.

Mandy Moore — Mandy Moore played mean girl Lana Thomas in ‘The Princess Diaries.’ The movie was just the beginning of Mandy’s film career. Erik Von Detten — Erik Von Detten was at the height of his heartthrob status in 2001. He played Josh Bryant, Mia’s big crush, in ‘The Princess Diaries.’ He went on to appear in several movies and TV shows over the years. Héctor Elizondo — Héctor Elizondo played Joe, Queen Clarice’s bodyguard, in both ‘The Princess Diaries’ and the sequel. Héctor appeared in 18 Garry Marshall films over the course of his career, including ‘Valentine’s Day,’ ‘Mother’s Day,’ and ‘New Year’s Eve’ in later years. He notably appeared as Callie’s dad on ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ From 2011 to 2021, he starred as Ed Alzate on ‘Last Man Standing.’ The actor recently appeared in the 2021 film ‘Music’ and the Rita Moreno documentary.

Sandra Oh — Sandra Oh didn’t have many lines in ‘The Princess Diaries,’ but her delivery of ‘the Queen is coming’ is iconic. She appeared in films like ‘Big Fat Liar’ and ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’ before getting cast as Dr. Cristina Yang on ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ She was a series regular from season 1 to 10. Since 2018, she has starred in the hit TV series ‘Killing Eve.’ Sandra will star in the upcoming Netflix series ‘The Chair.’ She has won two Golden Globe Awards.
