Steven Spielberg isn’t just an Oscar-winning director — he’s also a proud family man. Steven has 7 children: daughters Jessica Capshaw, Sasha Spielberg, Mikaela Spielberg, and Destry Spielberg, and sons Max Spielberg, Theo Spielberg and Sawyer Spielberg.

Jessica became Steven’s stepdaughter when he married her mom, Kate Capshaw, in 1991. Kate also had an adopted son, Theo, whom Steven adopted too when the pair married. As a couple, Steven and Kate welcomed five more children: they adopted daughter Mikaeala, and also had Max, Sasha, Sawyer, and Destry. Continuing the family legacy, most of the kids work in the entertainment industry, and they all have close bonds with their famous parents.

Steven and Jessica have worked together several time. She played a detective named Evanna is the 2002 sci-fi blockbuster ‘Minority Report’. She also had a part in her father’s 2005 miniseries Into the West.

The pair met during auditions for his film ‘Close Encounters Of The Third Kind’ in 1976. Around the same time, she made her film debut in the horror classic ‘Carrie’, as the only survivor of the flick, which starred Sissy Spacek and was based on a Stephen King thriller. Later in her career, Irving would be the singing voice of cartoon bombshell Jessica Rabbit in 1988’s ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’, which happened to be produced by her ex. (Kathleen Turner provides the character’s speaking voice.) Her last credit was the 2021 drama ‘A Mouthful of Air’.

Jessica herself is a mother of 4. She welcomed daughter Josephine Kate Gavigan in 2016. Daughter Eve Augusta is 10, Luke Hudson is 13 and Poppy James is 8. When Josephine was born the star shared an Instagram saying she was “endlessly grateful for her safe arrival” and that her “heart is so full of love that it threatens to burst.”

She talked about her profession with The Sun in Mar. 2020. “I’ve always known that whatever I wanted to do in life I probably was going to do it whether they liked it or not.” She said telling her parents about her job “kind of felt like a little bit of a relief,” adding, “It was like they were preparing themselves to get the news for this and they’re not sad for me and my choice of career.” Mikaela was arrested in Feb. 2020 after a domestic dispute with fiance Chuck Pankow in Nashville, Tennessee.

Like his father, Max, 36, has worked in the media industry. He is credited as part of the art department for video games like ‘Assassin’s Creed: Unity’ and ‘Jurassic Park: Trespasser’, according to IMDB. Max is married to beauty blogger Valerie Spielberg, according to Page Six.

Kate had adopted Theo, 33, before she married Steven, but the director adopted him shortly after their 1991 marriage. He worked on the crew for Saturday Night Live from 2014 to 2016. He was also credited on Justin Bieber’s documentary ‘Never Say Never’, according to his IMDB.

She defended herself against claims of nepotism after news of her short film ‘The Rightway’ was announced in July 2021 via Deadline. The Spielberg-directed short featured Hopper Penn, the son of Sean Penn and Robin Wright, and was written by Owen King, the son of Stephen King.

She tweeted, and later deleted, “I am just a young aspiring female filmmaker who admires the art of cinema. People can argue nepotism, But I know deep down that I worked hard to get where I am and it wasn’t easy. Beyond proud of this film and proud of the team it took to make it.”

Later she clarified in another post, writing, “I acknowledge that I was born with privilege! I own that through and through! I make it my mission to bring new talent into the industry & give opportunities to artists of all backgrounds. No one should be left out because of the connections they don’t have.

Max’s mom and dad had one of the most expensive divorce settlements in Hollywood history. According to the American Bar Association, the pair had signed a prenup on a scrap of paper. Irving later claimed was invalid in court because she had no legal representation during the signing and a judge ruled in her favor, awarding her a whopping $100 million divorce settlement.

The documentary explores the life and art of Steven. It was directed by documentarian Susan Lacy, who interviewed Steven extensively. “I’m a very in-depth interviewer,” she told Deadline. “We were still deeply in childhood after two hours. He is very shy about interviews; he does very few. [It’s] quite an extraordinary experience to hear him really open up.”

Talking about her career with The Sun in 2020, she said, “I got really tired of not being able to capitalize on my body and frankly, I got really tired of being told to hate my body. And I also just got tired of working day to day in a way that wasn’t satisfying my soul. I feel like doing this kind of work, I’m able to ‘satisfy’ other people, but that feels good because it’s not in a way that makes me feel violated.”

The Brown University alum opened up about making art in the shadow of her famous family with Women’s Wear Daily in Jan. 2021, admitting, “I do see myself the way probably most people do, which is like, ‘Oh, celebrity kid making music. Great.'”

“I felt like I’ve had to prove myself forever, and that’s why I can put myself down and why I constantly do. And it’s humorous, but it’s almost like I can’t walk around feeling myself, ever,” Spielberg said. “I have to always put myself down in some way, because I want to say what everyone else is probably thinking first.”
