Crowds Mourn Queen Elizabeth: Photos — The Queen is dead and now the world is in mourning. News of The Queen’s passing emerged on Sep. 8, 2022, not long after Buckingham Palace said doctors feared she was gravely ill.

Hour later, they released a statement which read, ‘The Queen died peacefully at Belmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.’

Just days before her death, the monarch received new British Prime Minister Liz Truss at Buckingham Palace on Sep. 5. The longest reigning leader of the British empire, she celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in May 2022.
