Pictured from left to right is the cast of the ABC show, ‘The Addams Family’ – John Astin, Lisa Loring, Ted Cassidy, Carolyn Jones (seated) & Ken Weatherwax – which aired in 1964 and lasted for two seasons.

The Addams Family has become a household name throughout the years ever since cartoonist, Charles Addams, created the family for the New Yorker in 1938. After that, in 1964, ‘The Addams Family’ aired on ABC for two seasons. In 1991, the first movie – ‘The Addams Family’ was created followed by ‘Addams Family Values’ in 1993. Since then, the latest installment of the family is the show ‘Wednesday,’ which aired on Netflix in 2022. Over the course of decades, the shows and movies have changed but surprisingly, the characters have remained remarkably the same. From their outfits to their personalities, you can see how the characters have transformed throughout the years.

Throughout the years, Wednesday Addams’ style has not changed much at all. From left to right is Lisa Loring in 1964, Christina Ricci in 1991, and Jenna Ortega in 2022. Wednesday has always worn a black dress with a white pointed collar and white cuffs. She’s also known for her dark black pigtail braids.

Gomez Addams’ look has barely changed at all over the years, as you can see. From left to right, John Astin in 1964, Raul Julia in 1991, and Luis Guzmán in 2022. All three characters rocked black hair with a mustache and they have always worn a black and white striped suit. The only difference is wearing a tie versus a bowtie.

Uncle Fester

Uncle Fester has remained basically unchanged throughout the years and one distinct feature about his character is obviously his bald head. From left to right, Jackie Coogan in 1964, Christopher Lloys in 1991, and Fred Armisen in 2022. Aside from the bald head, Uncle Fester has always worn a thick cloak or jacket which has gone from a circular neckline to a collar.

One thing for sure about the character of Lurch Addams throughout the years is that he always remained spooky. From left to right, Ted Cassidy in 1964, Carel Struycken in 1991, and George Burcea in 2022. Lurch always has the same hairstyle that features front bangs with the sides shorter than the top and a salt and pepper hue.

Thing

Thing

Thing has changed immensely over the years due to the fact that technology has gotten better in the years that have passed. As you can see from the photos from left to right, in 1964, Thing was a full arm of a man while in 1991 he became just a hand. Both of these adaptions of Thing were obviously the hands of a person as you could see it attached to the arm. However, in 2022, Thing became an actual hand with stitches that was able to roam around as just a hand, (thanks to CGI and green screens).
