Longlegs is Neon’s latest horror movie, and it’s gone viral for several reasons. Rising scream queen Maika Monroe leads the scary story opposite Hollywood veteran Nicolas Cage — and fans won’t believe which character the National Treasure actor is playing.
Hollywood Life has rounded up everything you need to know about the 2024 horror movie, Longlegs, below.
FBI agent Lee Harker — who is apparently clairvoyant — is assigned to work on a mysterious case in the 1990s. The FBI is hunting down an occultist serial killer known as “Longlegs” since the 1970s. His case has remained unsolved for years until Lee realizes a personal connection to the killer.
The trailer — which dropped in June 2024 — depicts the eerie build-up of the horror of Nicolas’ character. As Maika’s Lee works to figure out the mystery, the underlying fear of the film slowly unravels.
Maika portrays Lee, and Nicolas portrays the serial killer, Longlegs. The actor also produced the film. In addition to the two leads, the rest of the cast includes Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee and Dakota Daulby.
Even though Maika and Nicolas barely share the screen together in their latest movie, the Significant Other actress explained how he frightened her on set using the method acting technique.
“They had been filming with Cage for five days at that point, and it was his last day, probably three weeks into filming,” Maika said, per Variety. “The director chose to not have me see anything, not meet him, not see what his face looked like. He created this character, this thing, so I was so nervous.”
She went on to explain that production assistants brought her to a door on set into a room where Nicolas was.
“The cameras start rolling on me, and the director calls ‘action.’ I opened the door and what you see is all very real, and it was incredible,” she added. “He’s unrecognizable, and so I didn’t feel like I was in a room with Nic Cage. I was in a room with Longlegs. After we finished that scene, he was done. He’s in this method world, but he was able to let go of it. We’re sitting across from each other and he leans over, in his full look and everything, and says, ‘Oh, I’m such a big fan of you.'”
