Reading Time: 5 minutes

Enola Holmes is a girl on a mission. Millie Bobby Brown reprises her feminist role of Enola Holmes, the younger sister of famed detective Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill) and the daughter of Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter). The official trailer dropped on October 11, and Enola finds herself in more danger than ever as she seeks to crack a new case. She also has to work closely with her older brother when their cases cross paths.

In the way of background, Enola Holmes, (which marked Millie’s debut as a lead in a feature film) hit streaming giant Netflix in the very middle of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic on September 23, 2020. Within days, it raced to the top of Netflix’s most popularly streamed titles. Thus, a sequel was quickly ordered.

In between filming Stranger Things seasons, Millie went to work on Enola Holmes 2. From the cast to the trailers to the release date, HollywoodLife has all the latest updates on the Enola Holmes sequel.

Enola Holmes 2 Release Date

Luckily, fans of the original adaption won’t have to wait long to see Millie in the career making-role again. Enola Holmes 2 will debut on November 4, 2022, just ahead of the holiday season (and the weekend, for those who like to snuggle in for a good movie after a hard work week.)

Enola Holmes 2 Trailers

The newest trailer was released by Netflix on October 11. Enola and Sherlock’s cases become connected, and Sherlock begins to fear for his sister. “I fear she’s tangled with the wrong people,” he says. Enola refuses to give up her case. “I know what that’s like… to feel alone, to be ignored,” she admits.

Her mother, Eudoria, gives her the pep talk she needs. She tells Enola to trust her instincts. “You could be magnificent,” Eudoria tells Enola. The trailer is full of plenty of flirty moments when Enola goes to Tewkesbury for help.

The first trailer was released on September 24, 2022, during Netflix’s TUDUM event. The footage revealed that Enola has started her own detective agency, but she’s having trouble getting clients. When a young girl needs help looking for her missing sister, Enola quickly hops on the case.

Enola springs into action as she looks for clues. She goes to great lengths to get the answers she needs. “You can’t control Enola Holmes. She’s a force of nature,” Edith says. After a bit of a tussle, Enola and Sherlock realize they’re both working the same case.

Returning Cast & Crew

Fans of another Netflix favorite, The Witcher, will be pleased to hear that Henry Cavill is back as the fledgling detective’s brother, and Helena Bonham-Carter will return as Enola’s mother. Also confirmed to return is Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury. Other cast members include Sharon Duncan-Brewster,  David Thewlis, Susan Wokoma, Adeel Akhtar, and more. Harry Bradbeer will return as the director.

One notable cast member who will not be returning is Sam Claflin. Sam played Enola’s other older brother, Mycroft. There were likely scheduling issues with Sam and Enola Holmes 2 since Sam was cast as the lead in Prime Video’s Daisy Jones and the Six series.

“We set the film in the hustle and bustle of London, which is something that we didn’t really get to see as much in the first one,” Millie said of the film, per EW. “We got to really see what this young girl is doing in this crazy city that surrounds her night and day, and we get to explore these places in great detail.”

“I wanted this story to be a grittier one,” Harry added. “I wanted to introduce her to working-class girls in a working-class world. I wanted it to be a completely new world for Enola, so she was more out of her depth.”

The film was written by screenwriter Jack Thorne, who also wrote the first Enola Holmes, so while the elements are fresh (and more gritty,) fans can expect a streamlined tone and, of course, visual appeal.

Enola Holmes 2 Plot

While the fastidious, and incredibly intelligent, then-16-year-old went on an epic search for her mother in the first film (an adaption of the first book in the series by Nancy Springer,) the second film has the maturing young woman branching out into a professional capacity.

The official synopsis for Enola Holmes 2 is: “Fresh off the triumph of solving her first case, Enola Holmes follows in the footsteps of her famous brother, Sherlock (Henry Cavill), and opens her own agency — only to find that life as a female detective-for-hire isn’t as easy as it seems. Resigned to accepting the cold realities of adulthood, she is about to close shop when a penniless matchstick girl offers Enola her first official job: to find her missing sister. But this case proves to be far more puzzling than expected, as Enola is thrown into a dangerous new world — from London’s sinister factories and colorful music halls, to the highest echelons of society and 221B Baker Street itself. As the sparks of a deadly conspiracy ignite, Enola must call upon the help of friends — and Sherlock himself — to unravel her mystery. The game, it seems, has found its feet again!”

Millie Bobby Brown’s Performance

In the title role, Millie has already proven to be the perfect pick for the precious character. And director Harry says the solitary character (Enola is “alone” spelled backward) is evolving along with the actress. “She understands an adult story, but she also understands the instincts of a younger person, so all those things are vital,” Bradbeer said, according to EW. “She’s very trusting of us as we put the story together, and she gives input as each draft comes along. That’s the most important thing: She has a tremendous instinct for who Enola is.”
