Buzz announced that he and Anca had eloped in a tweet. Buzz married his third wife Lois Driggs Cannon on Valentine’s Day in 1988. The pair had an out-of-this-world proposal story, where the astronaut had joked about using a moon rock to pop the question to Lois, but apparently it caused issues between the government and Buzz, according to Vanity Fair. When the ring had a more conventional diamond ring, Lois still had a perfect response to the questions about the rock’s origin. “I tell them the moon is really made of diamonds,” she told People in 1989. “And we like to look up at the stars.”

Throughout their marriage, the couple started a new company, along with Lois’ daughter, called Star Buzz, which managed his public image. The pair were wed until 2012, when the astronaut filed for divorce. After the split, the pair were involved in a legal battle over Star Buzz, according to ABC News. Lois sadly passed away in July 2018.

Beverly Van Zile

Barring his new marriage to Anca, Buzz’s second marriage was also his shortest! He tied the knot to his second wife Beverly Van Zile on New Year’s Eve in 1975. Early in their relationship, Buzz and Beverly appeared together on the couple’s game show Tattletales in 1975, per IMDbThe pair split up in 1978.

Joan Ann Archer

When Buzz made his famous trip to the moon, becoming the second person to walk on it, he was married to his first wife Joan Ann Archer. The couple got married 15 years before the famed voyage in 1954. They had three children James, Janice, and Andrew. After her husband made the first trip to the moon, Joan was very open about how difficult it was to adjust to his newfound stardom. “I had married an engineer and here he was a hero,” she told the Los Angeles Times in an interview in the 70s. “This was disturbing but I didn’t understand and my immediate reaction was anger toward Buzz. I did realize I should have expected it.”

The couple divorced in 1974, five years after the Apollo 11 Mission. Joan passed away in July 2015 at 84-years-old, Buzz shared a few photos of his late ex after her passing on his Twitter, paying tribute to her. He honored her with a statement to the LA Times. “The future will recall Joan Archer Aldrin as a soft-spoken wife and mother, raising three well-behaved, individual-minded children and dealing with both our … tribulations with a most admired human acceptance,” he said.
