It’s time to give thanks. Thanksgiving 2020 arrived on Nov. 26, and with it, some of your favorite celebrities gathered to express gratitude and love with those they hold dear. While the CDC has recommended against traveling and huge family gatherings – because the COVID-19 pandemic is still raging throughout the country – some stars still managed to have the best Turkey Day ever (or the best they’re going to get in 2020.)
Though COVID may make Thanksgiving – and the rest of the Winter Holidays – look a little different, the spirit behind the holidays remains intact. Families or quarantine couples can still make plenty of good food, binge watch every single Thanksgiving episode of Friends, or watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos
Kelly Ripa, 50, and Mark Consuelos, 49, revealed their Thanksgiving holiday looked a little different this year. The Live! host and Riverdale star shared that they celebrated with her parents Joseph and Esther over FaceTime in a sweet post shared on Thursday, Nov. 26. “#tbt thanksgiving is not like last year, but we’re still grateful that our parents are getting the hang of FaceTime. Sort of,” she wrote on Instagram with several turkey emojis. The star also included a sweet throwback photo of herself, Mark and their three grown-up kids Michael, 23, Lola, 19, and Joaquin, 17.
John Legend
John Legend posted a sweet photo of wife Chrissy Teigen and their two kids, Luna and Miles, on Thanksgiving. “So so grateful for these three. Happy Thanksgiving!” he captioned his family Instagram photo. John’s sweet message about his family comes just one day after Chrissy tweeted that she’s been in “a grief depression hole” since losing her third child, Jack, in Sept. 2020.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow, 48, shared a rare photo of her two kids on Thanksgiving! The Shakespeare In Love star posed with her son Moses, 14, and lookalike daughter Apple, 16. The trio had a sentimental holiday as they paid a visit to the resting place of Gwyneth’s late father, director Bruce Paltrow. “On this November 26th, I was able to visit my fathers resting place (on his birthday) with these two loves of my life,” the Oscar winner shared in her emotional caption. “Happy thanksgiving. Life has incredible highs and lows. Perhaps feeling it all at the same time is the art,” she also wrote.
Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas
A family affair! Catherine Zeta-Jones, 51, and Michael Douglas, 76, reunited with their kids Carys, 17, and Dylan, 20, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Michael’s son Cameron, 41, and his wife Viviane Thibes also joined the group as they all smiled around a candle lit dinner table. “Thankful. #thanksgiving,” the Mask of Zorro actress penned in her caption.

Although Justin Bieber is Canadian — his country’s Thanksgiving was back in October – he still delivered a message on Nov. 26 to all the Americans celebrating. It was short and sweet, but still very poignant. “Thankful. Grateful. Blessed,” said Mr. Hailey Baldwin.

Jennifer Aniston celebrated her first Thanksgiving with Lord Chesterfield, the rescue dog she adopted in early October. “We’re grateful,” she captioned a short gallery of pictures of her with the puppy. The Early Show star is also the caretaker of a Schnauzer mix named Clyde and a white Pitbull named Sophie.

A week before the holiday, the Center for Disease Control issued a warning against traveling for Thanksgiving. In the face of skyrocketing infections, hospitalizations, and deaths, the CDC recommended against travel for Thanksgiving. For those who decide to travel, the CDC recommended doing it as safely as possible by wearing a mask, keeping six feet apart, and wash hands often with soap and water. “The safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving this year is at home with the people in your household,” said the CDC’s Dr. Erin Sauber-Schatz, per The New York Times.
The warning wasn’t against the act of traveling. “This is a bad time to be swapping air with people that are not immediate household members,” said Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota and a member of President-Elect Joe Biden’s Covid-19 advisory board. “You can have one person sitting at the table who appears to be perfectly healthy, and you can infect most the people, if not all of the people, sitting at that table.”
If members of different households gather in someone’s home for Thanksgiving, the CDC recommended they wear masks except when eating and remain six feet apart. Windows and doors should be kept open as much as possible to improve ventilation, and contact (hugs, handshakes) should be avoided.
