Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson opened up about a tragedy they experienced in October, when they lost the child they wanted so badly in a miscarriage.
Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson were over the moon when they found out she was pregnant with their first child. The couple, who were married in June 2018, revealed in a preview for the next season of Counting On that they were heartbroken to find out that Lauren suffered a miscarriage in October.
“Lauren and I were actually preparing for a trip to go to a friend’s wedding,” Josiah, 22, says in the Counting On preview. “She started feeling really sick and started noticing some different things. Mrs. Swanson was there, so she was able to help her out. I didn’t know exactly what was going on.” Poor Lauren, who is just 19 years old, breaks down in tears as she describes what happened to her.
“I wasn’t feeling well. I was cramping really, really bad, which was quite strange because I normally don’t. I was thinking maybe I had something that had gluten in it. It was late at night and I went to use the restroom and there was the baby. Gone. I couldn’t believe it and I was hoping it wasn’t true.” You can watch the preview clip HERE. The couple elaborated in a post on their shared Twitter account, writing:
“Many of y’all don’t know this, but a couple of months ago we found out we were expecting, however, soon after we miscarried. At first, we kind of wanted to just stay quiet about the news, but knew that since everyone is anticipating for us to announce that were having a baby, we felt like it was time that we told everyone that our first and only baby is in heaven. It is hard to hear when people asks us if we are expecting, when we only recently lost our baby. You can imagine it was devastating to the both of us.
“Our expectations of setting up a baby room, hearing the heart beat, feeling the baby’s first kick in mommy’s tummy, holding our little one and getting to to see our precious baby were – Shattered. Gone. Right before our eyes. Even though our sweet child is no longer with us, it is such a comfort to know that one day we will get to see our baby in Heaven! To the ones who have gone through this, I know your pain. It’s real and terrible. I just want you to know you don’t have to suffer in pain alone. It is not your fault. We greatly appreciate your prayers as we go through this hard time!
Love, -Josiah and Lauren”
Josiah and Lauren’s fans suspected she was pregnant in August 2018, after the couple posted a cute pic that showed Josiah smiling wide while looking down at her stomach. They were right. It’s an adorable pic no matter what, but fans knew that Josiah and Lauren would be trying for a baby after getting married. We wish nothing but the best to Josiah and Lauren during their difficult time, and as they continue on their journey to grow their family.
Counting On airs Mondays at 9:00pm ET on TLC.
