‘The Four’ continues with a round of badass contestants competing to be the one! There are two new contenders in particular who rock the house down. Find out whose seats are safe, and who’s going home!
Welcome back to The Four! The season premiere last week was so damn intense that we were wondering how the performers could top it. Like, Rebecca Black — “Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday” Rebecca Black — showed up out of nowhere. But it’s clear now that things are just starting to get good. The episode started with a sexy group performance by the current Four — James Graham, Majeste Pearson, Sharaya J, and Stephanie Zaleya — rising out of the audience to slay “All The Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA. They got a standing ovation from the audience and the judges. Diddy said he was “very impressed” by their talent.
We learn that the current Four got backstage passes for Wango Tango, where they got to hang with judge Meghan Trainor before she hit the stage for her performance. Even better? They met the Backstreet Boys. Sadly, Sharaya had to fly home to Atlanta for cancer treatment and missed the whole thing. This incredible woman flew back to LA the next day to rehearse for tonight’s episode! Now, we meet the next four contestants!
First up it Whitney Rain from Atlanta. From 2013-2015 she was signed with Island Def Jam Records! After that, she got pregnant, and she wants back in the game for her son! She gives a gorgeous (and sexy af) performance of Julia Michaels‘ “Issues”. The others look very concerned while watching her. Meghan tells her that she has a “magical gift that not everyone has,” the ability to entertain the room, no matter if there are 300 or three people there! DJ Khaled wants her to go harder, though. And Diddy calls her singing “average.”
But…she gets through! Whitney challenges Stephanie, who goes first. It’s savage. She does “On The Floor” by Jennifer Lopez, and she knows how to work the camera. It helps that she’s also wearing sequin bellbottoms while she’s dancing, to be honest. Whitney claps back with a stunning rendition of James Brown‘s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World”. It gets Meghan on her feet, and Khaled pulls out a candle and an air horn to bring out the good vibes.
Just a small issue…when he blows the horn, the candle blows up in his face! While the fireball is huge, he comes out unscathed. But whatever, because Stephanie has been unseated! Whitney is now one of The Four! Next up is De’Stani Bryant, an adorable 16-year-old who belts the hell out of Monica‘s “So Gone”. Everyone loves her, but they’re worried that she’s too young for this. She wants to prove them wrong! Sadly, De’Stani did not get the chance to challenge. But Diddy gives her some fatherly advice: he wants her to hone her craft, work hard, and come back later. She can do this!
Stelle Amour is…unique. This cheerful, cutesy hippie chick says she’s on The Four to spread her message of love with her “soul-ternative” music. And she refers to her boyfriend as “Dr. Dave”. It’s all a little odd. But then she busts out this sultry version of Gary Jules‘ “Mad World”. It’s a total 180 from the sweet oddball we’ve just met. Meghan calls it “sexy spooky” and confesses she’s a little afraid of her. Diddy can’t even come up with the words to describe her. Khaled’s all about it! Unfortunately, it was just a little too weird for the judges, and she’s sent home.
James Farrow, 25, comes out the gate saying he’s already the best rapper on the show. Hear that Sharaya? He does a sick cover of Terror Squad‘s “Lean Back”. Dude’s got an advantage, he’s already opened for Mobb Deep and G-EAZY. Diddy’s not so sure about him, but feels that he has potential. And he gets through. Who’s ready for a rap battle? It’s about to go down!
Sharaya puts him in his place by killing “Plain Jane” by ASAP Ferg. Smooth Khaled shoutout! Despite the fact that this woman is battling stage 2 breast cancer, she’s the fiercest person there. She makes a small mistake, but who cares? She’s a badass! James plays the crowd with “Panda” by Desiigner. This is a tough one. But…he just made a mortal flaw. He dissed Sharaya personally and Khaled was not amused. He said if Sharaya doesn’t hold her place in The Four, he’s walking off the show! The judges are clearly for her to win (Diddy even says she reminds him of himself!) but this is all up to the audience. They get their wish. Sharaya J stays!
Skylar Dane, 21, has moved from the Caribbean to LA to follow her dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter. The sweet curly-headed barista gives a gorgeous performance of Selena Gomez‘s “Wolves” and hits every single note. She has a beautiful falsetto! But Diddy feels she just wasn’t giving it her all by doing such a safe song. And…it’s too safe. Skylar goes home.
Here comes Jesse Kramer, 21, a rocker with incredible hair. Seriously; dude is here to prove rock ‘n roll’s not dead, but he also has better hair than Kate Middleton. It’s confusing, though. He says he’s on The Four to rock, but he does Jeff Buckley‘s “Hallelujah”. Either way, he’s got an incredible voice! That growl! The girls in the audience are going nuts. That guyliner. Diddy’s obsessed. He compares him to Elvis!! Of course we have a challenge after that! It’s Jesse vs. Majeste now.
Her Majeste lays it down with “Stone Cold” by Demi Lovato. The audience is totally enraptured by the soaring song, and she ends it with an expert falsetto. But Jesse’s got some tricks up his sleeve, too. He pulls out an electric guitar and does Jimi Hendrix‘s “All Along The Watchtower”! How are the judges and the audience going to decide? These are such different genres and skill sets. They should both be in The Four. But, the show isn’t called The Five, alas. It’s the closest vote in The Four history and…Jesse unseats Majeste! This could be a controversial choice, but it’s final. There’s now a rocker in the house!
The Four airs Thursdays on Fox at 8:00pm.
