With the books recent release, HollywoodLife.com had the time to sit down with Charlotte. So make sure to check out the EXCLUSIVE interview we had with her where she talks about her future in the ring, Ronda Rousey, Starrcade and the possibility of writing another book and so much more.
Writing a book is a massive thing to achieve, why was it so important to do one in the first place?
CF – “Well the idea to add me to the book was because… when To Be The Man came out, they didn’t think that the retirement match with Shawn, the ups and downs of life after wrestling and actually coming back to WWE in a different role and that was to be my manager. So the idea was how else are we showing Ric’s legacy anymore now with my career his legacy has continued, so that was the idea of attaching me to the book. But for me I wasn’t sure in the beginning. I hadn’t really done much. We worked on it for two years but we knew that it was going to finish at WrestleMania 32. So I had only been on the main roster for that one year and I was more nervous on why people would want to read it since I hadn’t been a part of the industry that long and I had the chance to open up about my personal life and I had to make the executive decision that one I was in a place in my life where I could talk about it and two once I started to realize it and that I could actually help someone, hopefully save someone’s life and really let people know what my life was like that anyone’s life could change reading my story because I am that passionate about explaining that. I would have never thought in a million years even with my time when I was younger in WCW that I would do something like this but everyday I get more confidant and grow as an individual and I wanted to share that!”
Along those lines, what is one thing you’d like people to take from reading this book, any lessons or any tale you’d like us to really keep with us?
CF – “So I know that this quote is very generic but we are so easy to judge every book by its cover and you look at the cover of our book, you see my Dad in a robe and a title. Me in a robe and a title and you get the sense that I must be entitled. Or I have this glamorous life. What is it like to be Ric Flair’s daughter? In reality that wasn’t the case. I spent five years creating this character that is not vulnerable, that is not relatable. Once again we want to judge a book by its cover. But the importance is you never know what happened in a persons life and you should never judge someone because of that, you just never know and I don’t think anyone who will open up the book will expect that I was going to open up to these things. Its going to surprise you.”
Assuming you have and will have more stories in you to tell, would you ever consider writing another book?
CF – “I would like to another book but way down the line. I could have gotten way more personal but I definitely told my story, I could have gone into more details but I chose not to because I am fairly early in my career. I think with what I did share I could help someone but maybe one day I will give that no filter when I am done wrestling but right now I am nit thinking about it. I hope my second book I get my happy ending. i want to have kids and a family and would love to talk about that part of my life but career wise I love my job, its everything to me!”
Do you wish Asuka would have been called up to Smackdown so you could feud with her?
CF – “Yeah I respect her so much and she is a special kind of talent and I think her transition will be an interesting one to the main roster. because everyone has to make that jump from NXT to the main roster, you never know what is going to happen. And for me she would be the perfect opponent because of her style. But at the same time if the fans have to wait then I have to wait! I just respect her in general, she is a mother and she came from a different country and barely speaks English and look what she turned NXT into, and she carried that for so long and I have so much respect for her. And having the opportunity to wrestle her would be exciting!”
There has been lots of rumblings on Ronda Rousey getting into a WWE ring, should she and how important would it be for you to face someone like her in the ring and how important do you think it would be for her to face you?
CF -“Ronda Rousey…. Well I haven’t heard things asked like that before but for me I think it is important for a few reasons. One… I want to face her just for the… to see how good I am as a talent because she is a UFC performer, a UFC fighter and I am a WWE talent that really shows my range as a performer and if I could have that opportunity with her, especially for what she has done for women in general I really owe it to her. For the doors she opened for us on the main roster, it took women like Ronda to be in these Main Event spots and having these moments and I don’t think it would have happened for us in the WWE if it wasn’t for Ronda Rousey’s success. I want the match! I want to be an attraction for the company, I want to be like a Brock Lesnar who is an attraction. I want Charlotte versus Ronda and that to be the Main Event at WrestleMania…. I feel that passionately, that strongly about it, any woman in the WWE should feel that way. I want the same opportunities but I want to be looked as a person like Stephanie McMahon. She is a women who I idolize, she’s an ambassador and she can talk and can go and talk and also be a strong presence in the ring, like the baddest bad guy but when it comes to the media, from Connor’s Cure and anything else she does I want to be looked at in that light. As an amazing woman!”
