It’s the first night of eliminations on ‘America’s Got Talent’ and guest judge Chris Hardwick sits on the panel! Get ready to be re-introduced to 20 acts — only seven will move on.
As auditions came to a close last week, we enter weeks of Judge Cuts. 20 performers took the AGT stage, but only 7 will continue on to the live show. Comedian Chris Hardwick serves as this season’s first guest judge and has the ability to use a golden buzzer! Let’s see how this goes!
Recall Sarah and her dog Hero, who Simon Cowell single-handedly saved during auditions! The dog trainer came back with a fresh theme, new tricks and a will to win in the first act of the night. Portraying sneaky thieves, Sarah and Hero pulled out all the movies — balancing on each others legs, doing flips off Sarah’s body and earning a standing ovation from the judges and the crowd! “That was so enjoyable to watch!” Mel B gushed and Simon promised to push for the pair when it came to deliberations.
The Baker Family, aged 13 to 37, gave a stunning, countrified version of “Stuck Like Glue” by Sugarland, while a Mariachi band offered a harmonic performance that Mel B loved. Up next were The Masqueraders — a trio that had been together since the ’50s, but were forced to leave their passion for singing and find jobs to make ends meat, since they couldn’t earn a living singing due to segregation. The singing group, wearing snakeskin cowboy hats, serenaded the crowd with “Bring It On Home To Me” by Sam Cooke. Wow, their southern twang blew me away! As they received a standing ovation, the men, ranging 72-74 years old, were overcome with tears. “This is your moment!” Heidi Klum declared. We can’t wait to see if these guys make it through! Fingers crossed!
Eric Jennifer, 36, is honestly an annoying comic who is most recognizable for his “MAKE SOME NOISE!” phrase. Harrison Greenbaum then took the stage, and made comedian Chris Hardwick rise to his feet. Next up was Dancing Pumpkin Man, who Mel B begged to go through in the audition round. The 42-year-old viral star added a cape to his costume and entertained the crowd with a dance to “What Is Love.” He stripped down from his typical black body suit into a sparkling purple suit, which everyone except Heidi loved. Chris, Mel B and Howie were so into it though — especially Chris! I don’t know about this one guys… there’s 7 spots available, do you think Pumpkin Man will be one of them?
Tom London, 25, is a magician who combines technology and magic and truly did the most incredible trick in this first round of cuts. He had the audience hold up their phones to the judges, and a slideshow of landmarks around the world came up. He asked Chris, first, to choose a landmark and write it down. Then, Tom removed an envelope from his jacket and pulled out an airplane ticket with Chris’s name on it, scheduled to travel to Washington, DC to see the Lincoln Memorial — which was the landmark that Chris wrote down! Tom took it even further and asked every single judge what their famous monument of choice was and had Chris hold up his phone camera to the boarding pass. A video appeared ON THE PASS showing Tom waving to each judge from the exact location of each specific landmark. OMG. He travelled around the world to show judges their choices on the show! Absolutely incredible.
Magician Eric Jones shared a heartbreaking story about his father, who was his best friend and biggest supporter, who passed away before Eric was able to say goodbye. As he took the stage, the magician came to do up-close magic in front of the judges. Using a sharpie, he had Chris Hardwick sign his name on the Joker card, and then changed the color of the card right in front of everyones eyes! Then, he approached Simon with a hammer, shading him for saying he was “not interesting” in his audition. Eric then put a hammer to the Joker card and it literally disappeared. He then banged the hammer on Simon’s buzzer and the card was IN THE BUZZER. We’re with Chris on this one when he said “10 points Gryffindor!!!” and Simon took back his comments from the audition earlier.
Remember little Angelica Hale, the little 9 year old who belted out “Rise Up” in her audition? Well the little fireball is back and ready to go! Singing “Girl On Fire” by Alicia Keys, Angelica was even more impressive! I think Chris had to literally pick his jaw off the judge’s table. All of the judges swayed and danced and clapped along, except for Simon who blocked out the audience with his hand to his ear, intently listening to her voice. “How do those pipes fit in those tiny body?!” Chris exclaimed, before hitting the GOLDEN BUZZER! “You are the chosen one!!!” he screamed and ran on stage to hug the little cutie. Yay! Angelica will be going right to the live show… and that means there are only 6 spots available tonight.
We went on to see a number of trapeze and acrobatic acts! Hussain, an Iranian who came to the USA with a dream to learn acrobatics and do balancing acts. First, the acrobat balanced on his head on top of a bottle of whiskey. Then, with knives underneath him, Hussain took it to another level and balanced on two blocks of wood, pushed out the blocks of wood and caught himself on the lower bar and pushed into a handstand. It was incredible! “I have been completely won over by you tonight,” Simon said. Still, it will be tough to see who will fill the 6 available spots out of the 20 incredible acts.
Darcy Callus, the swoon-worthy young singer, sang a subdued, romantic version of “Somebody To Love” by Queen on the piano and had us all falling in love. Judges were, too!
Argentinian cab driver, Carlos De Antonis, 53, who currently lives in Miami was a favorite of Simon Cowell’s and a total personality. The opera is back and we are here for it! Simon clearly was, too, as he swayed his fingers along to the melody. We hope to see him again, soon!
South Korean dance crew, Just Jerk, is ready to slay the AGT stage again. Looking to achieve the American Dream, this hardworking group performed an amazing routine made up of precise, small, movements. They received a standing O from everyone!
The Donald J. Trump impersonator, who is actually a spot-on DJT, took the AGT stage and vowed to “Make It Great Again.” Singing “I Want It That Way” with four dancing security officers, the Dancing Donald Trump, 56, had the crowd laughing and actually getting a laugh out of the currently political climate. He then broke into “Rock Your Body” and had the crowd on their feet with his…presidential moves. Mel B, who gave him the X in auditions, actually got on her feet to applaud the Dancing Donald Trump.
In an act that has never been successfully performed, Demian Aditya buried himself alive, 10 feet below the ground and chained with only 1.5 minutes to escape. The camera showing Demian underground struggling to get out of the chains went off suddenly and his wife, who watched with Tyra, began to scream and running toward the hole to get him out, but she was held back by those digging him up. Simon Cowell also ran toward the hole, calling for producers to stop and call the ambulance. This went on for over a minute until one of the men filling the hole took of their hats and… it was Demian! That was more than I can handle. It’s time for the judges to deliberate!
The Masqueraders, Sarah and Hero, Singing Donald Trump, Demian Aditya, Just Jerk and Eric Jones moved on to the next round!
Next week, 20 acts will compete and DJ Khaled will guest judge!
