Kathy Griffin barely kept herself together when discussing how Anderson Cooper called her ‘bloody Donald Trump’ photo disgusting. Kathy was deeply ‘hurt’ by her former CNN co-star, and HollywoodLife.com has the SCOOP that she totally ‘hates’ how she’s losing paychecks and friends!
Kathy Griffin, 56, faced the backlash and criticism over her controversial photo with a bloody President Donald Trump mask during a June 2 press conference, saying she’s not afraid of the “old white men” who are trying to silence her. Yet, Anderson Cooper, 49, and his public response to the photo came up, the comedian fell quiet. “Kathy, Anderson called your photo ‘disgusting.’ Do you think that was him talking or was he was pressured into to saying that?” a reporter asked.
“I…” Kathy said, trying to find the words as she tried her hardest to not break down in tears during the press event. Her voice wavered as she said Anderson’s comments “hurt.” When asked if he had contacted her at all during the scandal, she could only shake her head no. Anderson publicly denounced Kathy’s photo, tweeting on May 30 that he was “appalled by the photo…It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.” Kathy and Anderson had co-hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast ever since they first teamed up in 2007. That came to an end after this photo shoot, as CNN fired her. This, along with the other cancellations, has her feeling shook.
“Kathy is taking the fallout hard because it is effecting her bottom-line,” a source close to Kathy EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.com. “She hates that people might not hire her anymore and she feels she is falling into the same situation Gilbert Gottfried and The Dixie Chicks got themselves into when they talked about other controversial subjects themselves. She hates that she might have to rebuild her brand from the bottom up and hates again that she will be losing a lot of paydays. It is very frustrating for her right now trying to figure out how to right the ship for her career.”
Well, that ship won’t be taking her back to CNN, as it looks like that relationship has been sunk for good. Anderson totally backs his bosses’ decision, a source close to the newsman EXCLUSIVELY told HollywoodLife.com. Anderson will not try to get her job back because he thinks that “there should be repercussions to people’s actions.” He’s fine with still being her friend, the source adds, but judging by Kathy’s reaction in the press conference, their friendship might have taken a big hit.
Do you think Anderson and Kathy will ever patch things up, HollywoodLifers? Do you think that CNN should ever re-hire her?
