Kathy Griffin was fired from co-hosting New Year’s Eve on CNN with Anderson Cooper this year, and even though they’re longtime friends, Anderson is totally okay with seeing her go. Like the network, he’s still FURIOUS over the comedienne’s video beheading Donald Trump.
“Anderson [Cooper] is beyond okay with CNN’s decision to fire Kathy Griffin,” a source close to the journalist told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He is not going to try to get her job back because he feels there should be repercussions to people’s actions. He is fine with being her friend, but understands why she shouldn’t be his co-worker anymore. He is looking forward to embracing somebody and something new during New Year’s.”
For ten years, Kathy joined Anderson as the co-host for CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live, but on May 31, her contract with the network was officially terminated. The 56-year-old received major backlash and criticism after she starred in a controversial video holding up a fake version of Donald Trump’s decapitated head, covered with blood. Anderson made no secret of the fact that the shoot infuriated him, and he took to Twitter to express his outrage. “For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in,” he wrote. “It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.”
After recognizing how out of line the video was, Kathy issued an apology. “I sincerely apologize,” she said in an Instagram video. “I am just now seeing the reaction of these images. I’m a comic. I crossed the line, I went way too far.” Meanwhile, the president also used social media to address the situation. “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself,” he wrote. “My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”
