The ‘Harry Potter’ universe is expanding with the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise, but we all secretly want a Voldemort origin movie. Well, there’s a fan-made trailer out there for ‘Voldemort: Origins of the Heir,’ and it will have you begging J.K. Rowling to take notice.
First off, can you believe this is fan-made? Voldemort: Origins of the Heir looks legit amazing. The visuals are incredible, the story sounds great — where the heck can we buy tickets? The story takes place after Voldemort, who was initially known as Tom Riddle, graduated from Hogwarts. The origin story actually focuses on a witch named Grisha Mac Laggen, the heir to Gryffindor.
When a house elf is accused of killing her own mistress, Hepzibah Smith, one of the descendants of the Hufflepuff family, Grisha vows to find out what really happened. “And yet… I’m still smelling dark magic here,” Grisha says in the trailer. “I promise, Tom. I, Grisha Mac Laggen, Heir of Gryffindor, will stop you.”
Voldemort: Origins of the Heir is a non-profit fan film. The idea for the movie was inspired after the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Check out the enticing synopsis for the film: “What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort? What happened in those years, and what really went down at Hogwarts when he came back? There are some clues in the books which have not been transposed at all in the movies, but a lot goes unspoken. This is the story we want to tell: the rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first demise.”
With more and more movies in the Harry Potter universe exploring the backstories of characters like Grindelwald and Dumbledore, it was only a matter of time before one about Voldemort came along. Will J.K. get inspired and write a Voldemort origin story of her own? Time will tell!
