‘Baywatch’ isn’t for the critics! Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson took to Twitter to respond to the negative reviews, and he’s not letting them phased him! Why should he?
After one fan pointed out that Baywatch‘s rating on Rotten Tomatoes had moved from 13% to 18%, Dwayne Johnson retweeted, adding “Yay positive upticks 😂 Fans LOVE the movie. Critics HATE it. What a glaring disconnect. People just want to laugh & have fun. #Baywatch🔥🤙🏾.” He went on to also add, “Oh boy, critics had their venom & knives ready. Fans LOVE the movie. Huge positive scores. Big disconnect w/ critics & people.”
Of course, the fans are all the Dwayne cares about. That’s why he threw in the jokes he did. His character Mitch spends most of the flick making fun of Matt Brody, Zac Efron‘s character, refusing to call him Matt. Instead, he calls him some hysterical nicknames like “Bieber” and “Malibu Ken.” However, one was better than all the rest: “High School Musical.”
“”None of them were in the script,” Zac told MTV News during the movie’s press day in Miami, Florida, with Dwayne adding it was so fun to do, and Zac was fine with the HSM joke. “He was so down with it, which made it work. I love that about Zac. There’s not a lot of movie stars, who are like, ‘Yes! Make me the butt of every joke.’ Plus, he’s an easy target,” he said.
