Granted, ‘Baywatch’ won’t be winning any Oscars, but nonetheless, it’s exactly what summer hits are made of, and THAT’S why it’s a home-run flick. Featuring a talented cast, wow-worthy special effects, and a few LOL moments, ‘Baywatch’ not only exceeded expectations, but was actually fun to watch!
I’ll be honest, I had my doubts about Baywatch from the beginning. I’m the kind of person who sees as many Oscar-nominated films as possible as soon as the contenders list comes out in January. To say the least, Baywatch was not on my radar. In fact, I was hardly impressed with the seemingly sub-par jokes Dwayne Johnson, 45, and Zac Efron, 29, cracked in the trailers. So let me be the first to say, I was wrong. I genuinely enjoyed the movie and would watch it again in a heartbeat. I know pretty much any other review will tell you differently, but I think Baywatch was a slam dunk, and I’ll tell you why.
For starters, you have to go into the movie understanding this isn’t a Leonardo DiCaprio film — duh — and it doesn’t pretend to be either. Sorry to disappoint, but you’re not going to leave the theater pondering life or filled with a deeper understanding of humanity. You WILL leave the theater, however, A.) majorly inspired to work out, and B.) craving more — can we arrange a sequel? Basically, as most fans already know, this movie promises laughter, sexy swimsuit bods, wild explosions, and comedic charm, and that’s exactly what you get — nothing more, and definitely nothing less.
Summer blockbusters are supposed to be light-hearted and fun, and Baywatch undoubtedly delivered. I ended up getting hooked with the opening scene, and from there, I sat back, got comfortable, and had a legitimately good time watching the likes of Zac, The Rock, Alexandra Daddario, 31, and Kelly Rohrbach, 27, heat up the beach. Aside from Get Out, I can’t remember the last time I actually had this much FUN watching a movie. It truly is the perfect two-hour escape!
Clearly Baywatch isn’t for the critics, but I can guarantee fans will love it! Even Dwayne acknowledges that important fact. “Fans LOVE the movie. Critics HATE it. What a glaring disconnect. People just want to laugh & have fun. #Baywatch🔥🤙🏾,” he tweeted on May 25. And we could not agree more. Come on, critics, lighten up a little — Baywatch is EXACTLY what fans want to see, and it works. I predict it’ll be THE summer blockbuster of 2017.
Tell us, HollywoodLifers — will YOU be seeing Baywatch this summer? Were you surprised it got bad reviews from critics?
