Julianne Hough’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ dresses have wowed us each and every week and her stylist, Anita Patrickson, broke down what it’s like working with Julianne and shared some of her style secrets. Check out her major looks and let us know if you had a favorite from this season.
Julianne Hough seriously stepped it up with her amazing style on Dancing with the Stars this season, as the dancer-turned-judge shut it down with her fierce fashion each and every week, showing off a slew of versatile looks. From glam, form-fitting gowns to ethereal frocks and jumpsuits, Julianne pulled out all the stops, keeping us guessing and managing to outdo herself throughout the season. As the two-part finale kicks off tonight, May 22, we’re taking a look back at the bold fashion choices she made throughout the season.
We chatted with her stylist, Anita Patrickson, who weighed in on how her amazing looks come together to tell a story throughout the course of the season. “Jules is so easy to dress,” she said. “Everything we put on her looks amazing. She’s adventurous and she’s so willing to try new things, she doesn’t shy away from anything, even if she is like, ‘Oh God, no,’ she’s always game to give it a go.” Although you might think prepping for such a glam show might seem stressful, Julianne is down-to-earth and level-headed, keeping her cool throughout the process. “She’s so happy and chill,” Anita added. “It’s a relaxing process with her and she’s expressive about the whole thing.”
While selecting countless looks may seem like a lot of work, Anita explained why it’s actually easier than prepping for a single red carpet event — and that’s because you don’t have to select just one look. “You get to build this awesome story. It’s harder with a one-off look when you’re trying to choose one gown. I love having the 14 episodes, because we can do a sleek, classic look one day and then something edgy and funky the next. It gives you a bit more scope to have fun and really build out the story. We’ve got it down, we like to start with a bang, finish with a bang, and make sure we like how they [the outfits] all look next to each other. At this point, I know what she likes and what she won’t like,” Anita said.
Anita admitted that dressing Julianne for the show does come with a specific set of challenges. “The lights on stage are so extreme, so it’s all about finding that balance,” she said.
So, when do they select the looks? Way before the season even starts! “We do a big fitting and piece it together. Things might change, we might want to go in a different direction, but we try to be organized before the season starts,” she added.
