‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ stars Tituss Burgess and Jane Krakowski reminded us all that they are legends when they took on Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand’s duet ‘Get Happy’/’Happy Days Are Here Again’ on May 20. Slay!
Where is Tituss Burgess‘ Tony Award? The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star brought out special guest Jane Krakowski at his Tituss Burgess, Pinot Noir, and a Grand Piano event at the Vulture Festival on May 20, and naturally, there was singing. (Jane does have a Tony, in case you didn’t know.) No, it wasn’t “Pinot Noir,” but the cover they performed was still strong as hell. Tituss made his Broadway splash by playing Sebastian in The Little Mermaid back in the day, and during his panel, he used the opportunity to recall a funny tale about his time in the show. “I went to the producers when I was getting ready to leave the show,” he told the crowd, “to see if they would let me audition for this other role [Ursula] that I should have been playing. And they said no. But here’s why they should have.” He then began singing an R-rated rendition of the sea witch’s iconic song “Poor Unfortunate Souls” that would make Titus Andromedon proud. Yass. “Maybe they’ll get their act together and put me in that movie,” he joked afterward. Make it happen, Hollywood!
As usual, Titus(s) does plenty of singing on season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which hit Netflix on May 19. There’s a can’t-miss montage of Titus “Lemonading” in episode 2, and it’s guaranteed to earn him another Emmy nom. Fingers crossed for a win this time!
