No ‘issues’ with this performance! Newcomer Julia Michaels is here to stay after her incredible performance at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. Listening to her sing her hit “Issues” was truly one of the most beautiful moments of a jam-packed night.
Oh, how we love Julia Michaels! The talented songwriter turned singer lit up the stage at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards with a simple and elegant performance of her new song, “Issues”. Wearing a chic tuxedo and backed by a band, she used her talent to tell her story — not flashy costumes, lighting schemes or elaborate choreography. It’s totally awesome when people do that, but Julia proved that she’s a true star without any assistance. Go, Julia!
Her performance was a standout when you notice that she was singing from a platform in the middle of the audience. That takes a lot of guts! This was a huge moment for Julia, and you could tell she recognized the significance. She cried when the song was over! We can’t even imagine how incredible that feeling must have been.
Finally, Julia Michaels gets a chance to shine under the spotlight! The longtime song writer is responsible for creating some of the most bangin’ hits of our time. Justin Bieber‘s “Sorry” wouldn’t exist without Julia! Neither would Ed Sheeran‘s “Dive” or Rita Ora‘s “Poison”! Oh — and Selena Gomez‘s “Hands to Myself”. Seriously, she’s one of the most talented people in the music industry. She decided to finally keep one song for herself, and guess what? It’s another hit! It’s impossible to get away from “Issues”, one of the most infectious jams on the radio right now.
“I’m a songwriter, so I’m not a precious person when it comes to sharing music,” Julia said to NME about “Issues” just days before the Billboard Music Awards. “But there was some type of emotion missing when other people sang it. It’s about a big fight with a partner, so it wasn’t their story – it was mine. After I wrote that song it was a turning point and made me want to perform these songs as an artist in my own right.”
