It didn’t take long for the 2017 Billboard Wards to get shady. As Vanessa Hudgens kicked off the May 21 event by busting out Celine Dion impression, ‘Baywatch’ star Alexandra Daddario let everyone know she was NOT a fan. Damn.
Did Alexandra Daddario, 31, just give the 2017 BBMAs its shadiest moment? Right after Nicki Minaj, 34, opened up the awards show with a nine-minute marathon of hits, co-host Vanessa Hudgens, 28, wanted to get in on the fun. After doing a pretty solid Nicki impression, her co-host Ludacris, 39, dared Vanessa to mimic Celine Dion, 49. Challenge: accepted. Vanessa broke into Celine’s “I’m Your Lady,” and the cameras caught Alexandra looking totally unimpressed with the High School Musical star. Wow.
If this shade is what kicks off the BBMAs, just imagine how crazy the rest of the ceremony is going to get. This is a night that features performances from Lorde, 20, Miley Cyrus, 24, Ed Sheeran, 26, Drake, 30 Imagine Dragons, The Chainsmokers, and a pair of mega-divas: Cher, 71, doing her smash hit “Believe; and Celine, who will channel Rose and Jack when she sings “My Heart Will Go On.”
As for Luda, there was one performance he wanted to see the most: Bruno Mars! “I really like every time [Bruno, 31] performs,” the rapper and Furious actor EXCLUSIVELY told HollywoodLife.com. Luda said that Bruno’s 24k magic has a little bit of “James Brown DNA” in it. So it seems Luda thinks that the maestro that brought the “Uptown Funk” is very much like the “Godfather of Soul.” That’s a huge complement!

This will be Ludacris’s fourth consecutive year hosting the BBMAs, but he won’t be doing it alone, as Vanessa will help him keep the party going. “I’ve had different people co-host like Chrissy Teigan and Ciara and now Vanessa Hudgens,” he tells Billboard. “I think that what’s most important is having an understanding, so that our chemistry is right and [we] get the best out of each other, so we can translate on television to having great energy.” Well, after that opening, there’s no doubt about Luda and Vanessa’s chemistry.
Vanessa didn’t seem intimidated by the challenge of hosting one of music’s biggest nights. “I mean, I never planned on hosting anything before — but the opportunity presented itself, and I thought, why not?” Vanessa said. “I think it’s going to be a blast, I’m super stoked [about] the performers.’ While Luda is going to be getting down with Bruno, Vanessa can’t wait to see Celine Dion out her biggest hit. “She’s the reason I started singing,” she says. “My parents had [The Colour of My Love] and I would take it and put it in my karaoke machine and sing along,” she added.
What did you think about the opening of the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, HollywoodLifers?
