Just when you had your date night look ready to go, the temperature totally warmed up, meaning it’s time to adjust to a new season — and with that comes a whole new set of rules! We consulted a major matchmaker who offered up a foolproof look that is bound to be your new go-to.
Looking for a new go-to summer date night look? Well, we’ve totally got you covered! LastFirst founder, Emily Holmes Hahn, dished on how to put together the best look. “You know your shape best, so the #1 “do” is to always wear clothes you feel and look fabulous in! Showing some tasteful skin (shoulders, back or leg- pick two!) is definitely another “do” in summer, as is opting for a bold color, or a striking all-white look. “Don’ts” would include anything “messy chic,” like jean shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops- it can be great look for day-to-day, but a date is an opportunity to put on something a little more special,” she said.
Now that we have the “do’s” down, are there certain “don’ts” to avoid? “Any ultra-contemporary trend is wise to avoid. Don’t wear a tropical kimono or distressed denim shorts just because you saw them on your favorite Instagrammer! These items really don’t translate. I also advise against anything too “involved” in summer’s sticky heat- meaning tight bandage skirts, garment tape, structured tops, stiletto heels, and the like. Heavy makeup, especially liquid foundation, will melt away and leave you blotchy, so nix that too!”
While it all comes down to the type of date and your specific type of style, Emily did say there is a foolproof look everyone should incorporate into their wardrobe — and having your outfit ready to go is one less thing to stress about! “A short and swingy sundress, sky-high wedge sandals and a beachy tote,” she said.
