Chris Daughtry, 37, could be the game changer for the American Idol reboot on ABC. One thing that viewers loved so much about the singing competition show was Simon Cowell, 57, and his ruthless criticism of contestants. So, how does the show’s return plan to recapture the scowling British judge’s personality without him actually being there? Well, a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that show runners have their hearts set on Chris to be the one that keeps it real. They are even comparing him to a celeb judge on another popular singing show!
“Chris Daughtry rumors are true, he is going to surprise a lot of people the way that Blake Shelton did when he was announced for ‘The Voice’,” our source explained. “He is going to be the more stern coach and the one to tell it like it is like Simon Cowell or Harry Connick Jr. did in the past.” Wow! We have to admit we did not see that coming, but if Chris really is ready to bring his A-game and keep contestants on their toes in the reboot, we’re down.
Unfortunately, not everyone is too thrilled that Chris will be taking center stage as a judge on the new American Idol. As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, season five winner, Taylor Hicks, expressed his frustration with the show’s casting choices. “You know, I’m not going to get into who shouldn’t or who should be a judge,” he said. “If anything I think a winner should be, personally, you know? Because, I mean what you go through, you know, what you go through to win the show is a lot different than what you go through when you’re third or fourth or fifth or tenth.” For the record, Chris came in fifth the same season that Taylor was crowned the new American Idol.
