The Met Gala may be over, but the fun is just beginning! Melissa Rivers told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY whose outfits she’s excited to talk about on ‘Fashion Police’ on May 2, and how the Comme Des Garcons theme went really right or REALLY wrong.
The only thing we love more than the Met Gala is getting to see what all of the Fashion Police thought of the iconic looks the next day! Melissa Rivers, 49, previewed the May 2 special EXCLUSIVELY with HollywoodLife.com, and she told us all of her thoughts on the theme, the stars, and how to create the perfect Met look!
“It’s going to be very architectural, it’s going to be a lot of structure,” she revealed of the Comme Des Garcons theme in 2017. “Layers of tulle and lace and embroidery and cut outs and feminine, I think we’re going to start seeing it go back the other way. Very over-exaggerated.” From Selena Gomez’ hyper-femme look to Kylie Jenner’s embroidered and beaded fringe dress to Gigi Hadid’s massive tulle train, Melissa hit the nail on the head!
When asked whose looks she was most excited to see and talk about, Mel said “oh god, we always look forward to Madonna, GaGa, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, and Rihanna.” However, her most anticipated this year was surprising. “Honestly, Paris Jackson is going and she is very much the it girl of the moment, and has the innate ability to really make whatever she’s wearing her own. That’s going to be very interesting.” We can’t wait to hear her thoughts on the classy-yet-daring underboob-flaunting ensemble Paris rocked from Calvin Klein.
Melissa revealed what makes a look successful, saying “do people go for massive over the top, or do they go for maybe just looking red carpet beautiful? I think the one that walks that line beautifully all the time and I think has established herself as the unofficial queen of the Met Gala is Blake Lively. She seems to really know the balance of the two. Even with something dramatic, it doesn’t become costumey.” We’re sure she’ll love what Blake wore this year — a gorgeous armor-like gown dropping in 24k gold chain!
As far as mistakes? “Things that just don’t look pretty, or don’t look good,” she revealed. “Just because it’s crazy and over the top doesn’t mean people shouldn’t look good. Last year, Katy Perry’s dress blew me away and the hair and makeup was just so not pretty. Really, black lipstick looks good on no one. They get caught up in the costume aspect versus the fashion.” Uh oh, then she’s really not going to like Lily Collins’ look for 2017!
HollywoodLifers, be sure to tune into Fashion Police at 8pm on E! to see what Melissa and the other hosts thought of fashion’s biggest night!
