Whoa. Did Barack Obama just lose one of his closest political allies? Senator Elizabeth Warren slammed the former president after he did something to deeply disturb her. Uh-oh. What did Obama do?
It seems that Senator Elizabeth Warren, 67, is not thrilled to hear former President Barack Obama, 55, will collect a fat paycheck when he speaks at a Wall Street conference in September. “I was troubled by that,” Elizabeth said while appearing on Sirius XM’s Alter Family Politics show on April 27, per ABC News, slamming Barack for perpetuating “the influence of money” on politics.
“I describe [money] as a snake that slithers through Washington,” she said. “And that it shows up in so many different ways here in Washington. People understand the money that goes into campaign contributions. And when I say ‘understand.’ I don’t mean they think it’s okay, but at least people see it.”
Barack will receive $400,000 to be the keynote speaker at a conference being thrown by Cantor Fitzgerald LP, a Wall Street investment firm, per Raw Story. Considering that Barack was a huge critic of Wall Street’s massive influence of politics while he was in the White House, seeing him collect nearly half-a-million dollars to talk to them made Elizabeth see red.
After all, Wall Street speeches were a huge deal during the 2016 Presidential election, as both Bernie Sanders, 75, and Donald Trump, 70, continued to harass Hillary Clinton, 69, about the $225,000 she received while speaking to Goldman Sachs. However, Barack is no longer running for officer, and his adviser, Eric Shultz, tried to remind people that despite the huge payday, Barack is not a friend to big money.
“In 2008, Barack Obama raised more money from Wall Street than any candidate in history, and still went on to successfully pass and implement the toughest reforms on Wall Street” in 60 years, Eric said in a statement. “While he’ll continue to give speeches from time to time, he’ll spend most of his time writing his book and, as he said in Chicago this week, focusing his post-presidency work on training and elevating a new generation of political leaders in America.”
Hmm. This attempt to clap back at his haters might not be enough to salvage his friendship with Elizabeth, as she absolutely hates Wall Street. Oh no! Does this Elizabeth and Barack are the new the new political Katy Perry, 33, and Taylor Swift, 27?
What do you think about Obama taking a $400,000 paycheck, HollywoodLifers? Do you think Elizabeth is correct for shading the ex-president?
