Oh no! Richard Simmons was hospitalized on April 17 after suffering from ‘severe indigestion,’ his rep confirms. Will he be okay?
Richard Simmons, 68, was rushed to the hospital by members of his team on April 15, Michael Catalano, his rep, tells ABC News. “After a few days of battling severe indigestion and discomfort while eating, we agreed it was best for him to seek treatment,” Michael explains. He’s already feeling better and is expected to make a full recovery.”
While Richard has virtually disappeared from the spotlight in recent years, this is the second time he’s been forced to emerge for medical reasons in the past year. In June 2016, the fitness guru was hospitalized after displaying “incoherent behavior,” and he later explained he was simply “dehydrated” and in need of some fluids. The explanation or details of his reported bizarre actions was never explained.
The 68-year-old has been in headlines this year again, though, as reports have surfaced that he’s being held hostage in his home by his housekeeper, Teresa Reveles. Richard’s rep has repeatedly denied these claims, but there was enough chatter that police were sent to his home at the beginning of March. However, when they found him, he was “of sound mind and perfectly fine.” Still, there’s major concerns about the fact that Richard hasn’t been seen in public in more than two years, and an entire podcast has been devoted to figuring out his whereabouts.
“Teresa is a housekeeper, she’s the caretaker,” a rep for Richard explained after the hostage reports first surfaced. “She is extraordinary, she is amazing, she takes impeccable care of Richard and has for as long as I have been working with Richard. So that is a complete load of crap.”
