The hunt is on for Steve Stephens, the man who allegedly gunned down a man in Cleveland on Easter Sunday, all while broadcasting the horrific shooting on Facebook Live. Now, the hunt has expanded to a total of five states, as officials are desperate to stop him from hurting more people!
After initially searching Ohio for Steve Stephens, authorities are now urging residents in Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana and Michigan to be on the look out for the 37-year-old suspect, according to CNN. Steven may have fled Cleveland after he allegedly shot and murdered Robert Godwin Sr., 74, as a cellphone ping from Steve’s phone was detected about 100 miles east of Cleveland in Eerie, Pennsylvania.
Steve, who is 6’1 and weights 244 pounds, was last seeing wearing a dark blue and gray (or black) striped polo shirt. He was driving a white Ford Fusion with temporary license plate. People are to be on a look out, as Steve claimed he killed more than a dozen people besides the elderly Robert Godwin.
“I shamed myself. I snapped, I snapped. I just snapped, I just killed 13 motherf*ckers, man,” Steve said while speaking on the phone with an unidentified person in a video posted to Facebook, according to the New York Post. I’m about to keep killing until they catch me, f— it. I’m telling them to catch me…. Now I’m just massacring people.” While Steve claims he’s gone on a killing spree, Police Chief Calvin Williams said that there “are no more victims that we know [that] are tied to him.”
The manhunt began on Easter Sunday, after authorities were notified of a horrific video posted to Facebook on April 16. In the video, Steve allegedly exits his car to walk up Robert, before ordering him to say a woman’s name, “Joy Lane.” After Robert does as he’s told, Steve allegedly shoots the man in the head, before saying “this mother*cker is dead because of you, Joy.”
Steve’s mother, Maggie Green, 53, said that her son visited her before allegedly committing his horrible crimes. “He said this [would be] the last time I was going to see him, before claiming Steve was “mad with his girlfriend” of three years. Police haven’t talked about a motive in the shooting, but the authorities did say that Robert was “just a random person that [Steve] picked out.”
Our thoughts continue to go out to those who have been affected by this horrible tragedy.
