Brace yourselves ‘Doctor Who’ fans because this is MAJOR! The Master is coming back after 7 years away, and we aren’t talking about his regeneration Missy! John Simms revealed on April 6 that we’ll see him again in season 10. Find out how!
This is CRAZY! Everyone who watches Doctor Who has a love/hate relationship with The Doctor’s arch nemesis The Master. The evil nemesis, played by John Simms, 46, was both terrifying and charismatic, twisted yet charming, and we were all devastated that he left the show in 2010 and died in front of the 10th doctor David Tennant. It was a bittersweet moment.
Of course, Time Lords don’t die right away, they regenerate as The Master did into The Mistress, who goes by Missy and is played by Michelle Gomez. She’s equally as evil and crazy and amazing as the Master, but we’ve always missed John. Luckily, we will finally get to see him again in the upcoming 10th season!
John revealed to BBC on April 6 that he WILL reprise his role, admitting “I can confirm that it’s true, thanks to the power of time travel I’m back. It’s always a pleasure to work with this great team of people and I can’t wait for you all to see what the Master gets up to in the next series.” Yay! We had already seen Missy in the season trailer, but it turns out that they may actually appear in the same episode!
EP Steven Moffat elaborated, saying “nothing stays secret for long on Doctor Who but you’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see exactly what The Master is up to and how he makes his return to face The Doctor. It’s been a huge pleasure to have fan favorites John Simm and Michelle Gomez face to face in the same role! It’s not often you get to see a solo personality clash.” Sooo cool! We can’t wait to see what happens in the premiere on April 15 on BBC!
