In 1987, the world fell in love with Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing. Now, 30 years later, the movie is being recreated for an ABC special with an all-star cast. While the cast first shared some photos on social media, all the official photos were just made available and we see every big scene — the moment Johnny says “Nobody puts baby in the corner;” the iconic walking-on-a-log scene; and yes, that lift.
Abigail Breslin plays Frances “Baby” Houseman in the new film, while Colt Prattes plays Camp Kellerman dance instructor Johnny Castle, Sarah Hyland plays Baby’s sister Lisa Houseman, Debra Messing plays Marjorie Houseman, Nicole Scherzinger plays Penny Johnson, and Bruce Greenwood plays Dr. Jake Houseman.
“I remember being a kid when it came out and sitting in the movie theater and thinking, ‘This is the first time I’ve actually seen a leading lady who isn’t perfect,'” Debra told ABC News about the original Dirty Dancing. “It was a turning point for me. Like I thought, ‘Oh, I’m Jewish and I’m awkward, oh I’m Baby!'”
She also told People mag that the TV movie isn’t a “replica” of the original flick. “This takes some liberties. It has the DNA of the original, but you are going to find out what happened to Baby and Johnny after that summer ended. So there’s some additional surprises in there that are new,” she said. “My hope is that people who loved the movie are going to be happy with all the things that are iconic with the movie, that they’ll appreciate the things that are new and modernized with this version.”
