The University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball team had their historic 111 game winning streak broken on Friday, Mar. 31 by Mississippi State. Morgan William for Mississippi State put up the final buzzer beater shot that sent Bulldogs fans into an absolute joyous craze.
Mississippi played well against UConn the entire game with the Huskies trailing behind at halftime. The win came as sweet revenge for the Bulldogs after they lost to UConn in the Sweet 16 round in 2016 by 60 points! The Huskies’ dream to win a FIFTH championship trophy came to an end with Morgan’s heart-stopping final basket. UConn had not lost a game since three years ago in 2014 and now the record has been completely shattered by the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Morgan has definitely had an impressive tournament run for herself. She led her team to victory against Baylor in the Elite Eight too. She rocked the court with 41 points and 7 assists and the game ended in a 94-85 overtime win for the Bulldogs. The team has been on an underdog tear through the tourney. Do you think they have the potential to win it all and take home their first NCAA trophy? The Bulldogs don’t have time to celebrate their win because they now advance to the championship game against South Carolina. The final game is on Sunday, April 2 at the American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas. It’s scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. ET.
