Wow. That’s the first word that comes to mind after seeing the first trailer for ‘The Greatest Showman’ at CinemaCon 2017, unveiled by Hugh Jackman himself. Plus, Jennifer Lawrence thrills in ‘Red Sparrow’ and so much more.
20th Century Fox ended their CinemaCon 2017 presentation with the highly anticipated first look at The Greatest Showman, a musical that tells the story of P.T. Barnum. In the trailer, which was introduced by Hugh Jackman, we see the showman in action as he puts together, well, the greatest show on earth. Sneak peeks at Zac Efron‘s tap dancing character and Zendaya‘s high flying trapeze act were featured, as well as Keala Settle‘s breakout role as The Bearded Woman. The Greatest Showman will hit theaters on December 25, 2017 and is sure to be hit.
Another trailer unveiled at CinemaCon was Red Sparrow starring Jennifer Lawrence. The film is still in production, but early footage reveals Jennifer’s character being recruited into Russian spy intelligence. The first look was thrilling, and it will be exciting to see Jennifer in such an intense new role. Red Sparrow hits theaters on November 10, 2017.
Speaking of intense, The War for the Planet of the Apes trailer had the audience on the edge of their seats. We were also shown an extended scene, in which Cesar and his group discover another ape after believing they were all gone. The ape is naive and alone, but it gets them hope that there are more out there in the world. Plus, the trailer for Alien: Covenant was introduced by director Ridley Scott who told the crowd he hoped it scared the “sh-t” out of them — and it sure did! The footage showed us that the aliens were being recreated intentionally to stop mankind from inhabiting space, and soon enough aliens were popping out of bodies left and right. It was truly terrifying and will definitely fit right in with the Alien franchise.
On a much lighter note, Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer surprised the crowd to show new footage from their mother-daughter comedy, Snatched. This is Goldie’s first movie in 12 years, and during her time on stage it was very obvious that she could not be more excited for audiences everywhere to see her in action alongside Amy. In the new footage shown, Amy and Goldie are desperate to escape their captors before it’s too late and they are killed. This leads to some wild hijinks, including Goldie trying to distract their captors by screaming random words in Spanish while Amy accidentally fires a weapon at one of them. Thankfully we don’t have to wait too long to see Snatched, as it will be out for Mother’s Day weekend on May 12, 2017.
