Start jumping for glee because Matthew Morrison is heading to ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ The former ‘Glee’ star has been cast in a mystery role, which has us wondering if he might be playing Jo’s abusive and mysterious husband!
Matthew Morrison, 38, has been booked for a guest-starring role on Grey’s Anatomy, our sister site Variety has confirmed. The details about his character are being kept under lock and key, but the actor did reveal that he will be playing Dr. Paul Stadler via Instagram. Photos of Matthew on the set made their way onto Twitter, and he’s filming scenes with Justin Chambers (Alex) and Kevin McKidd (Owen).
Since he’s filming scenes with Justin, could he be playing Jo’s estranged husband? The introduction of Jo’s husband has been long overdue. Back in season 9, Jo (Camilla Luddington) first revealed that she had previously been in an abusive relationship. Jo ran from her husband but never filed for divorced because she knew he would be able to find her if she did. That’s why she couldn’t say yes to Alex’s proposal.
“Her husband is super charismatic and everyone loved him. At the same time, he was extremely dangerous,” Camilla told THR about Jo’s husband. If Matthew is playing Jo’s husband, this character will be a far cry from Glee’s Mr. Schuester.
The cast recently attended PaleyFest and Justin was quizzed about a possible Meredith/Alex romance. “I think anything is possible, especially on Grey’s Anatomy,” he said during the panel, but added he’d like to see where things go with Jo first. If Jo’s husband is introduced on the show, will it bring Alex and Jo closer together or tear them apart?
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
