Donald Trump has officially taken action with his plans to rescind President Obama’s climate change initiatives. The POTUS signed an executive order on March 28 that places value on American jobs…but completely takes away focus from the environment and preventing global warming.
President Barack Obama’s progress on dealing with climate change has been majorly halted because of President Donald Trump, 70, who signed an executive order calling to rescind, suspend and review many of his predecessor’s policies on the issue on March 28. It is Trump’s belief that Obama’s initiatives ‘devalued workers’ and weakened the economy, which he claims has a negative effect on the environment, and this new order ends federal action on climate change.
“I think the President has been very clear that he is not going to pursue climate change policies that put the US economy at risk,” a White House official explained on March 27, one day before the order was passed. “It is very simple.” Trump previously called global warming a “hoax,” and while his new policy addresses that this problem is legit, it’s very clear that he has an entirely different approach to dealing with it than President Obama did.
Trump’s order will review Obama’s Clean Power Plan, which bans the emission of greenhouse gases at coal-fired power plants. He will also repeal the ban on coal mining on federal lands, with hopes of putting coal miners back to work, among other policies. Trump’s initiative focuses on keeping air and water clean, but he’s adamant about spending far less money on climate change than the Obama administration did and providing Americans with more energy jobs. This is something he has been promoting since before he was even officially elected as president — back in Oct. 2016, he said, “I will also cancel all wasteful climate change spending from Obama/Clinton.” President Obama has yet to comment on his successor’s new plan.
