‘Valerian’ in 3D is coming, and Cara Delevingne was on-hand at CinemaCon 2017 to debut a brand new look at the exciting reboot during the STX presentation. Plus, new ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’ details and some casting news!
STX Films took over CinemaCon 2017 on Tuesday, March 28 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada to highlight their jam-packed upcoming film slate. They brought some exciting talent, too… including Cara Delevingne, Mila Kunis and even Mark Wahlberg. Here’s a full roundup of what went down!
Although The Circle is one of STX’s big 2017 films, Emma Watson wasn’t able to make CinemaCon to debut the footage. Instead, she filmed a short and sweet video thanking everyone for their support that played before an extended scene from the film. In the scene, Emma’s character goes toe-to-toe during her job interview for The Circle, which later in the trailer she gets. The new trailer seems to take a much darker turn about halfway through when John Boyega’s character helps Emma realize that The Circle is not as great as it seems.
The entire film has a pretty eerie premise, too, that focuses on how much the world revolves around and even relies on technology and social media. “It’s the world we’re living in right now,” STX chief, Adam Fogelson, told the audience. As for the decision to go with Emma as the lead, Adam explained that she “could not be any more perfect representation of her generation.” Very true!
For the big Valerian presentation, STX showed us a brand new 3D trailer of the film that was nothing short of remarkable. The 3D element truly immerses moviegoers into Valerian’s world, and the action is something that should not be missed. Dane DeHaan shines as the main character, but with Cara by his side he is an unstoppable force. Valerian might just be the most visually stunning film of 2017.
“Someone pinch me, I’m dreaming,” Cara squealed excitedly after seeing the 3D trailer for the first time along with the audience. She also added that she did her own stunts for the movie, sharing that while filming one scene she actually injured a stunt actor. Cara didn’t go into much detail, but she did mention that she had his blood on her. Gah!
Jessica Chastain and Aaron Sorkin were also a part of the presentation to debut the first footage from Molly’s Game. Jessica portrays the real-life Hollywood poker vixen Molly Bloom, but Aaron promises that there is much more to the story than what’s on the surface. “It’s a lot of fun to tell people a story that they think they know,” Aaron shared. “People who are familiar with this are familiar with the tabloid version of the story. There’s much more to it than that.”
Jessica added, “It was wonderful to work on this,” also praising Aaron for his work by saying, “There’s nothing better than Aaron Sorkin dialogue. To be able to do that was a great honor and pleasure for me.”
Other trailers shown during the presentation included Renegades, The Foreigner (a real Jackie Chan comeback), and very rough footage of Ugly Dolls (due out May 10, 2019) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. STX also announced that Shailene Woodley would star in their next big picture, Adrift, the true story of Tami Oldham. The story revolves around Tami getting knocked out while at sea with her boyfriend, Richard, and waking up to find him seriously injured and their boat completely wrecked.
Another exciting announcement included Mark Wahlberg being cast as the starring role in Mile 22, which he told the audience he wants to be the film people think of when they think about him as an actor. Also, Den of Thieves premiered an action-packed trailer starring Gerard Butler, and will be released January 19, 2018.
Last but not least, STX brought A Bad Moms Christmas back to CinemaCon! Mila Kunis surprised the audience to share that the cast would be reuniting to film in Atlanta, Georgia over the summer. The highly anticipated sequel is due out on November 3, 2017. As for why Bad Moms was such a success? Mila says it was relatable in ways only parents could understand. “I think people really responded to it because it’s really honest. It’s grounded in so much honesty” as well as being absolutely hilarious.
