Kara and Mon-El face off against his family together and their relationship grows stronger.
The episode of Supergirl opens up in an impossibly adorable way. Mon-El makes Kara breakfast in bed… well, almost. Becuase Kara woke up before he got the chance to deliver it. She takes note of his gesture and suggests that he’s changed. Kara gets a call and gets suited up before Mon-El can barely blink so she heads out to take down some aliens as her boyfriend sets his sights on doing the laundry. Mhm. Chores are for everyone.
The president has a talk with J’onn over exercising caution when it comes to the aliens. He doesn’t necessarily agree but adheres nonetheless.
Alex and Maggie run into Maggie’s old flame, Emily. Alex tries to insist she’s cool with the encounter, so much so that she forces a dinner between the three of them, despite her girlfriend’s clear discomfort. So, that’s going to go well… not.
It turns out that Kara took down alien bounty hunters… and they have a bounty on her head. A big one. Like, really big.
J’onn, Alex, and Mon-El want her to hide because she’s in a ton of danger. She reluctantly agrees to “lay low” for 24 hours.
J’onn tells Mon-El to keep an eye on Kara and he promises he will, but first he has to do something. That something is meeting with his parents and accusing them of putting the bounty on Kara’s head. They deny it and say that they’re still on Earth because they’re hoping he’ll go back with them. His mother tells him she’d rather die than leave Earth without him– they’re trying to guilt trip him. It may be working.
Alex and Maggie are waiting for Emily at dinner for 45 minutes where Maggie reveals that Emily was her longest relationship. And the reason she didn’t think she “deserved love.” Alex asks for the check after realizing her mistake at setting up the meeting.
Mon-El shows up at Kara’s place where Wynn and Jimmy are babysitting. He tells her that he suspects his parents are guilty. Out of nowhere, he freezes and tells the group he can’t move. An alien is seen on the street apparently manipulating him and then forces Mon-El to charge at Kara and smash them both through the window.
They begin to fight, though neither one of them wants to, but Mon-El can’t help it and Kara has to defend herself. Mon-El tells her to run because he can’t fight it. Wynn comes up behind the alien and threatens him and he releases his hold on Mon-El. They bring him back to the DEO, it turns out he’s the “most powerful telepath” and he refuses to give up the info on who ordered the hit via Mon-El on Supergirl. J’onn goes to face to face (head to head?) in a telepathy battle and he reveals that it was the Daxamites who did it. The team wants to go after the Daxamite’s ship but J’onn reveals that the president ordered them not to.
Alex confronts Emily about not showing up to dinner. They get into it about how she left things off with Maggie and Emily reveals that Maggie cheated on her. Alex is taken aback by the revelation.
Mon-El suggests that they run away together to another Earth-like planet but Kara wants them to face things. She also wants him to talk to his mother because she thinks they can change her mind. Mon-El agrees to try.
Kara and Mon-El meet with his mother. He tells her if she wants a relationship with him, she has to lay off of Kara. She doesn’t like being told what to do. Kara tries to appeal to her inner kindness, but it turns out their kind of is none. Because, like, she takes out a kryptonite sword and swipes at Kara, fully intending to take her out. She stabs her, and before she delivers a fatal blow, Mon-El gives into his mother and says he’ll go back with her and do anything if she stops hurting Kara. He apologizes to Kara and tells her its the only way. It’s okay as long as she’s safe. He leaves with his mother and she brings him to the ship. He demands that they call off the bounty on Kara and his mother (seemingly) complies. It’s then revealed that Mon-El’s father didn’t know that his mother had called the bounty in the first place.
Alex confronts Maggie about her relationship woes with Emily. She brings up the cheating and says it’s less about that and more about hiding the truth. Alex does some psychoanalyzing and says that because of her parents’ rejection after she came out, she had a hard time trusting people. So Alex continues to be the most understanding significant other in the galaxy and comforts her and lets her know she can trust her. Their sweet moment is interrupted when she gets a call– Kara stumbles into the DEO.
She tells J’onn and Alex they need to help him and they refuse, because of the president’s orders. Kara begs them and tells them its her fault that they were even negotiating with her mother in the first place. She, “can’t lose him.” *Clutches heart*
On the ship, Mon-El’s dad promises that Kara will be safe. He tries to level with him, tells him that in the long run he’ll know that coming back was the right choice. They get to talking about responsibility that comes with being royal and Mon-El tries to tell his father to institute a more democratic system of governing. He’s not receptive. He says they need order and leadership. Mon-El insists they rebuild and his mother comes in and smacks him. Then, she had the guards put him in a cell for the duration of their trip which is a cool, nonchalant four years long.
The team strategizes on how to stop the Daxamites and Kara storms the ship before they can take off. She fights off the queen’s guards but then there’s still the queen with her kryptonite weapons coming after her. Wynn also appears on the ship to free Mon-El.
The queen tries to wound her with her weapon, but it doesn’t work– because J’onn shape shifted! It ain’t Kara at all. Except Kara actually does go to the ship after that to help her friends.
She battles it out with the queen for real this time. The queen nearly had her in her clutches but Mon-El shoots a hole into the window of the ship sending it spiraling out of control. The king shuts off the hole and stabilizes the ship. He lets Mon-El go. Mon-El tells him they’ll never see him again, but offers them the consolation of knowing that he’s glad they’re alive. Which is nice of him considering how they tried to repeatedly murder his girlfriend and imprison him.
In the end, Maggie and Emily talk it out as Alex happily watches from a distance. Maggie thanks her for making her open up emotionally.
The president confronts J’onn about going after the Daxamite ship, he explains the situation. He says he made the decision and accepts the consequences. The president tells him she’ll let him know what the consequences will be. Except she’s not the president at all. She’s an alien in disguise. That keeps happening, doesn’t it?
Bakc at the apartment, Mon-El and Kara talk about their harrowing experience. Mon-El appreciates her open-mindedness and her ability to see that people can change. Tells her she’s right– his dad changed. Wants people to be more like her, optimistic and brave. She tells him that he was both of those things. He tells her he admires her for her altruism and they both coo over the fact that they saved one another. It’s cute as heck.
Mon-El’s parents lament over losing Mon-El, but his father explains that he’s happy and that’s what matters. The queen tells the kind he ruined their vows but he tells her he’s still by her side. He tells her they’ll move on from this but she disagrees– and stabs him through the gut, citing the fact that he betrayed her.
She declares that she’s not done with this world. *Gulps*
HollywoodLifers, what do you think the queen has planned for Kara and Mon-El?
