Kristi Yamaguchi did her best! She really did. But when the ice skating icon tried to wish fellow Team USA skater Nancy Kerrigan good luck on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ some fans took her tweet as a diss instead. Check it out!
UPDATE: Jerry Solomon, Nancy Kerrigan‘s husband and manager, tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively: “Nancy and Kristi have been friends since they were about 15 years old. Nancy never for a second thought that there was any intent other than Kristi genuinely wishing her good luck in Dancing with the Stars. It is a shame that people are reading anything more into it than that, but Nancy and Kristi spoke on the phone last night and had a good laugh about it.”
“So excited for you @NancyAKerrigan!” Kristi Yamaguchi, 45, wrote on Twitter on March 20. “Can’t wait to see you grace the ballroom floor, break a leg! #DWTS.” Take a look:

“Break a leg” is a common phrase, obviously. But as you may recall, Nancy seriously injured her right leg — when the ex-husband of her rival Tonya Harding hired someone to attack her with a police baton — ahead of the 1994 Winter Olympics. She was forced to withdraw form the U.S. championships. Yikes!
Fans immediately took to Twitter to comment on the unintentional shade, using reaction gifs to express their shock. Check ’em out:

Rest easy: Kristi meant no harm towards Nancy, who is dancing with partner Artem Chigvintsev this season. “Kristi loves Nancy and has nothing but respect for her. No ill will was intended with the tweet and Nancy herself has received and commented on the well wishes that were sent,” her rep said in a statement to E! News. “Kristi is finding the reactions on social media humorous but unfortunately for those who want it to have been shady, that’s not the case.” Phew!
As an aside, Nancy is killing it on DWTS. She and Artem received a pretty good score of 28 out of 40 in week one, and we can’t wait to see what they’re working on for next week!
