Jennifer Lopez and the rest of the ‘World of Dance’ team attended NBC’s Summer Press Day on March 20. The crew revealed that the first season will feature laughs, tears, and ‘death-defying’ stunts. Plus, JLo admitted what she knows about the ‘American Idol’ revival!

Jennifer Lopez, 47, admitted at World of Dance’s NBC Summer Press Day panel that the contestants this season will “blow your mind.” She added, “It all comes down to performances that blow you away.” The actress/singer extraordinaire admitted that she pretty much considers herself a “dancer first,” since that’s what she started with as a child.

“It’s so part of who I am,” she said about dancing. Working on World of Dance reminded her of “all the reasons I love dance.” Jennifer also promised that “you’re going to laugh, cry, you’re going to dance” in just the first 30 minutes of the show.

The other judges, Ne-Yo, 37,  and Derek Hough, 31, and host/mentor Jenna Dewan-Tatum, 36, were also on hand to talk about the show as well. When asked what makes a good dancer, Ne-Yo said he’s “looking for passion.” For him, technical skill is one thing, but if he doesn’t care why a dancer’s spinning, then it doesn’t mean much to him.

There were times while the show was being filmed that the World of Dance team was scared for the performers. Derek said there are “literally death-defying movies and stunts happening” and there were times he was gasping while watching performances. And, yes, injuries do happen. “These dancers are risking it all,” he said.

American Idol made its way into the conversation, especially since there are talks of a revival. “I haven’t heard anything about that,” she said about a possible NBC revival. “I know nothing about that.” However, she did say that her time on a “well-oiled machine” like American Idol did prepare her for World of Dance. “We all had enough experience to make it kind of fly right away,” she said.

World of Dance premieres Monday, May 8 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
