Dancing With The Stars is back! Season 24 kicked off live from Hollywood on March 20, and we’re already sensing some stiff competition!
Judges Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough and Len Goodman are back behind the table, and ready to judge!
The show did not waste any time! The dances started immediately with Fifth Harmony member Normani Kordei dancing with Valentin Chmerkovskiy. Out of the gate, she did a nearly flawless Quickstep, a super hard dance! Len said, “you were committed, you were full of energy…first day out and it was first class.” Julianne said, “you nailed it, I loved it!” Bruno loved her individual style. Carrie Ann said they need more partnering, not solo dancing. They got a 27 out of 40.
Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan danced Viennese Waltz with Artem Chigvintsev. Julianne said she was beautiful and inviting when she dances, and seemed totally starstruck! Bruno said it was the opposite of frozen! Carrie Ann said “it was so easy to watch.” Len said, “it had flow, the movement was expressive… You are the pairing with great promise.” They got a 28!
Former SNL cast member and actor Chris Kattan danced Cha Cha with Witney Carson to “What Is Love,” an iconic song from his career. “It was the perfect interpretation of the Cha Cha Cha with a hangover. You got the character …the Cha Cha Cha, I am not sure,” Bruno said. Carrie Ann said she loved the goofy, funny dancing, but that he was too stiff when it came to the choreography. “The best thing about that Cha Cha is that I don’t have to watch it again,” Len said. Ouch. They got a 17 out of 40!
Professional bull rider Bonner Bolton danced Cha Cha with Sharna Burgess. “You are what women love about this show, that’s for sure,” Carrie Ann said. Len said he loved their chemistry and said that he could see them going far. Julianne said, “trust your instincts.” Bruno said Sharna was “in for the ride of a lifetime.” Oh, baby! They got a 22 out of 40!
Pop culture icon, singer, dancer, and entertainer, Charo danced Salsa with Keo Motsepe. “Work more on the technique… the performance, you nailed,” Len said. Julianne said she was hot! Bruno didn’t even get to talk because Charo was being so crazy! Carrie Ann said she needs a bit more content. They got a 21!
The Bachelor‘s Nick Viall danced Cha Cha with Peta Murgatroyd to Justin Bieber‘s “Let Me Love You.” Julianne said, “I know you have the passion and determination.” Bruno said he looked like a pop idol. Carrie Ann said he needs to calm down a little bit. Len said it was a little disjointed but great for the first week. They got a 24!
Glee actress and dancer Heather Morris was partnered with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. They danced the Viennesee Waltz. Of course, Heather casually mentioned she was BEYONCE’S back up dancer and that she grew up dancing — “but no ballroom!” There was a lot of pressure on her to perform! Heather wore a gorgeous yellow dress, like Belle. “Beauty and the Beast! I think we are in for some magic here. The routine was beautiful, simple, and effective. I loved it,” Bruno said. Carrie Ann said her lines were beautiful. Len said, “I think you’re a match made in heaven.” Julianne stuck up for Heather, saying ballroom dance is very different from what she had been trained in. They got a 28!
World Series Champion and the first baseball player ever on the show David Ross danced Quickstep with Lindsay Arnold. Carrie Ann said it was one of her favorite dances of the night! Len said, “it’s not a home run but you got yourself to first base!” Julianne predicted they will go quite far! Bruno said he was “as fresh as a daisy” on the dance floor. They got a 28!
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne danced Salsa with Gleb Savchenko. Len said it was “too raunchy.” Julianne said she is like a real life unicorn. Carrie Ann said she was fabulous but thought she was in her comfort zone a little too much. They got a 24!
Next, NFL player Rashad Jennings danced Cha Cha with Emma Slater. “That was the best dance of the night so far,” Julianne raved, adding, “I think you have the magic to make it all the way.” Bruno said he has star quality. Len said it was terrific but that he was slightly ahead of the music. They got a 31, the highest score of the night…so far!
Former wrestler and actor Mr. T danced Cha Cha with Kym Herjavec. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much Cha Cha. Bruno called him “the king of bling.” Carrie Ann said there were a lot of mistakes but was looking forward to next week. Len said the “T” doesn’t stand for technique but instead, “tenacity and trying your hardest.” They got a 20!
Finally, one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, Simone Biles, danced Tango with Sasha Farber. “That was the dance of the night,” Len said. “You are the whole package. You guys are the dynamic duo,” Julianne said. “You are so deliciously lovely,” Bruno said. They got a 32, the highest score of the night!
