Days after his arrest for alleged heroin and cocaine possession, comedian Artie Lange’s mugshot has been revealed. The ‘Howard Stern Show’ mainstay looks far more subdued than his usual happy self. This is another heartbreaking chapter in the story of the troubled actor’s life.
Artie Lange, 49, was arrested on March 17 in Hoboken, New Jersey for “alleged possession of cocaine, heroin, and drug paraphernalia” after cops responded to a report of someone trying to enter a car near his home. The cops reportedly found the drugs inside the car; “a male later identified as the defendant approached the officers and confirmed it was his vehicle….A search of his person also revealed several more bags of suspected heroin along with cocaine,” says the Hudson Reporter. After his arrest on the 17th, Artie was released on a summons with an upcoming court date.
Now, three days later, on March 20, Artie’s mugshot has been released to the public. The comedian, who has a storied history with drug abuse and addiction, looks almost sorrowful in the photo, obtained by TMZ — not his normal, bubbly self. He spoke out on Twitter about the incident, telling his followers that he’s “doing great” and that the Hoboken PD treated him well.
“I wish I could tell u how my story ends. I hope it’s being old & smiling cuz of unique memories. But I’m such a flawed person guys. Tryin!” he mused on Twitter, adding, “I swear this life is so crazy. I wish that scared me. Pls don’t be me younger ppl. I care for u deeply!”
Artie has support from his friends in the comedy community, who aren’t letting his arrest define him. Judd Apatow, produces Crashing, a new series starring Artie and Pete Holmes. Judd tweeted the same day of the arrest: “We would never give up on Artie or anyone struggling with addiction”.
