Wow! Bachelor Nation vets were so harsh about Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi’s prospects for love, marriage and a baby carriage after the pair said ‘I do’ to being engaged. That’s just not fair!
Bachelor Nation alums Trista Sutter, Jade Tolbert and more were quick to throw doubt on any hope for a happy ending for Bachelor Nick Viall and his fiancee Vanessa Grimaldi as soon as they made their “After The Final Rose” appearance last night, March 13, and that was just so “judgey.”
They, more than regular fans, should know how unrealistic the entire Bachelor/Bachelorette love hunt is, and they should applaud this pair for being more open than past Bachelor couples about the huge challenges in the process.

The vibe of the whole room at After the Final Rose right now is so serious and strange feeling. No? #TheBachelorFinale

Come on guys. Plus, all you fans out there who were rooting for Nick to pick Raven Gates, 25, just because she told Nick, 36, that she was unequivocally ready to say yes to a proposal on the finale last night. Viewers were dissing Vanessa,29, because she voiced her doubts about getting engaged to a man who also had strong feelings for another woman.
Vanessa has defied The Bachelor viewers expectations since the beginning of this season by standing up for herself and expecting Nick to treat her and all of his contestants with the respect they deserve. Vanessa was behaving perfectly normally when she admitted that she had serious concerns about making a lifetime commitment to Nick based on crazy two months of Bachelor dating, while being filmed the whole time.
She had been very clear that to her, getting engaged was the same as getting married — and she only wanted to do both of those things just once. Vanessa all along has been voicing normal and relatable feelings about The Bachelor love process that previous Bachelors, Bachelorettes and contestants just kept off the screen. It’s so unfair to diss the prospects of her relationship with Nick working out, based on her transparency and honesty.
It’s the very qualities — honesty, self-esteem, commitment to her family and career – that Nick values. He must have found it so refreshing to meet a woman on The Bachelor that refused to play the typical “Bachelor” games. She literally refused, along with a number of the other contestants, to play a sexist game of beach volleyball in bikinis. Then, she told Nick off for making out with Corrine Olympios in front of all the other women. She informed him that SHE had no interest in being in a relationship with a man who only wanted one-night-stands with a play thing.
So, Bachelor Nation fans, you shouldn’t be surprised that Vanessa was equally honest about the challenges she and Nick face now that they are moving their romance into real lifeland. “I’m not going to sugarcoat things. Some days are tougher than others,” she admitted, while talking about the stresses of hiding their relationship for months and having to navigate a long distance romance between her hometown of Montreal and his base in LA.
She also confessed “there were moments where I wanted him to be empathetic toward my feelings.” However, she did stress that “I love him and we love each other but there have been days that have been difficult.”
Before you readers write off this romance, there is major good news for Vanessa and Nick! Vanessa plans to move to LA to be with Nick — a huge compromise that most viewers probably didn’t think she’d ever do. She even has plans to start a charitable foundation. And, she’s thrilled for Nick to go on Dancing With The Stars as a contestant. Plus, anyone who watched the After The Final Rose show or saw the pair in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel last night could see that Vanessa and Nick couldn’t keep their hands off each other and neither could they stop smiling. They looked ecstatic to be together. There was no faking that affection.
I love seeing a Bachelor couple that has all along had discussions about serious real-life relationship issues and now is being open about how they are loving each other and simultaneously trying to mount the very real hurdles of merging their lives together.
Real is so much better than fake or unrealistic fairytales. What do you think HollywoodLifers? Do you like Nick and Vanessa together? Do you think they will last?
