The War Machine trial has become even more painfully emotional, with new testimony from Christy Mack’s mother. Erin Mackinday tearfully told the court just how angry she felt after the MMA fighter allegedly beat and raped her daughter. It was enough to make her want to shoot him!
Erin Mackinday could hardly contain her tears as she recounted the awful day in 2014 when her daughter, Christy Mack, now 25, was beaten beyond recognition. She testified in the trial against Christy’s ex-boyfriend, MMA fighter War Machine (real name Jonathan Koppenhaver), recalling every brutal and painful memory. Though the terrifying incident happened three years ago, Erin has not gotten any less angry with War Machine for what he allegedly did.
While on the stand, Christy’s mom was asked if she regretted not reporting any signs of abuse that she saw with her daughter and her ex-boyfriend, before the alleged attack. “No. I wish I would’ve shot you,” she said while looking at War Machine. Wow!
It’s easy to see why she’s so livid. Christy was left with a serious fracture of her left eye socket, missing teeth, a lacerated liver, broken ribs, and broken facial bones after the alleged beating. She was covered in bruises from head to toe. In her testimony, Christy stated in a 2014 testimony that War Machine showed up at her house around 2:00am in August 2014, cut off her hair, cut her head, beat her brutally, and raped her. He allegedly forced her to strip naked and shower in front of him. She managed to escape after he allegedly threatened her life, running down the street naked and injured, begging for help.
“She was laying in the bed and it didn’t look like her,” Erin said on the stand, crying as she remembered seeing her daughter for the first time at the hospital after the beating. She had rushed to Christy’s house when she heard what happened — allegedly from War Machine himself — and was only met by police who said Christy had been taken to the hospital. How insanely scary!
War Machine has been charged on 34 counts, including attempted murder, kidnapping and sexual assault. He has pleaded “not guilty” on all charges.
